Think of a magnificent entrance to a city or castle, such as the fictitious Camelot. Based upon strong intervals of fourths and fifths, the main melodic material is strong, yet joyful. It is sophisticated music for young groups, but something they will love to play. 10522049 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 l PrimulaYukiko Nishimura. Fresh, flowing, and beautiful best describe this work. Expressing the feeling of joy at the coming of spring, the piece is lush, then light; introspective, then happy, taking the listener on a wonderful journey. 10522053 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 n Rain FestivalJeremy Woolstenhulme. Easily chosen as their favorite of the year - because your players enjoyed creating moods and sounds outside the traditional classical realm! Simple percussion parts are included so string students can experience the tambourine, wood block, rain stick, claves and conga drum. Finger snaps create the sound of rain before moving into a dance-like syncopated theme. An excellent selection for a concert closer or recruitment piece. 10366971 String Orchestra, Percussion Req. . . . . . . . . . 50.00 H Sahara CrossingRichard Meyer. Sounds of a desert caravan are found in this fun and exciting original by Richard Meyer. It's an excellent piece to reinforce the tonal color of low first finger notes (Eb and Bb). The bouncing cello and bass parts and optional tambourine and finger cymbal parts add just the right exotic flavor. Wonderful! 2442523 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 46.00 n Ships of IrelandSoon Hee Newbold. This driving, D minor jig is a great way to close a concert! All sections get a chance to play the theme as well as accompany, using pizzicato, drones, or a lilting figure that conveys the rolling waves of the sea. This calls for crisp, clean playing that will bring out the best in your students and thrill your audience. 2701813 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00 SilhouettesAlan Lee Silva. With legato melodic lines, driving marcato phrases and quiet pizzicato figures, Silhouettes employs a wide range of musical techniques for young players to grasp. The piece begins with four measures of unaccompanied, solo violin playing the lyrical melody. The rest of the orchestra then joins to create lovely melodies and harmonies that are lush and full-sounding. Expressive playing and dynamic contrasts showcase your students' musicianship from beginning to end. 10366584 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 47.00 n SnowflakeYukiko Nishimura. Floating and delicate, this gorgeous piece features long melody lines and plenty of sustaining harmonies. It evokes the feeling of taking a walk during a gentle snowfall. The first violin part leads with the main melody, as the other sections have an inner melody. Each line should be played espressivo at all times. A stunning selection for winter concerts. 10093756 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 H Spring Breezesarr. Richard Meyer. Try this tender folksong from Taiwan to develop your students' sensitive and lyric style. Accompanied by lush, modern-sounding harmonies, the melody is passed to each section. The solos for violin and cello are at a medium-easy level, and are accompanied by a prominent harp or piano part. Simply gorgeous! 2442762 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 48.00 n Stone Mountain StompCarl Strommen. This one stands out in the "fiddle tune" category. Carl Strommen has managed to take some of the sounds of Southern fiddling and mix them with a Western "Copland-esque" style and make something really special. Another great feature of this one is that the violas and low strings all get a chance at some fiddling. 2472094 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 47.00 Storm the GatesAlan Lee Silva. This piece is a rush of excitement right out of the gates. Starting with exciting and angular rhythms, this work moves to sweet, lyrical lines. 10457571 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 47.00 4 A Tale of Four TreesElizabeth Daily & Bob Phillips. Cute narration and easy string parts! The perfect piece to play for parents of younger players or for older players performing for elementary students, the narration takes the audience on a musical tour of the creation of a beautiful stringed instrument. 10520803 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 46.00 l Tampa MarchSara Bongo & Robert Moore. Winner of the 2006 Texas Orchestra Directors Association Composition Contest, the French title means "Tango of Love." From the opening three chords, this piece is set apart by its dramatic quality, intriguing harmonies and genuine tango style. Written in D minor, all parts stay in first position. An appropriate choice for any concert, festival, or contest, students and teachers will want to play this one every day! 10026992 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 47.00 l Theme with Academic VariationsTraditional/ arr. Jeffrey S. Bishop. After introducing the theme, the orchestra then performs "variations" of it: a version with 85% of the notes correct; 93% correct; 100% but with poor musicianship; and finally "as perfect as possible." It's a real eye-opener for parents, community members, and administrators. 10500822 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00 H ToccatinaWilliam Hofeldt. This is exceptionally nice! Very rhythmic and in a minor key, this "little toccata" is a very welcome addition to the easy string orchestra literature! 2253037 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00 n TurbulenceWilliam Owens. Turbulence gets its kick from driving accented rhythms and edgy dissonance. It's got the right balance of lyrical style and rhythmic punch for even your violas and cellos to shake things up. Highly recommended. 10307145 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00 l Under the BigtopSusan Day. Picture the trapeze artists, performing elephants, the organ grinders with their monkeys, and the excitement on the children's faces! Written in the key of G Major, in 3/4 time, all parts share the melody lines with an upbeat tempo, some slurs, lifts, pizzicato, and accidentals. This piece is sure to bring a smile to players and audience. 10520403 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 4 UndercurrentsSean O'Loughlin. A four-note motive pushes the piece forward and is contrasted by a lush middle section. The unrelenting motive comes back and brings the piece to a dramatic finish. 10522063 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Valse DiaboliqueJoseph Compello. This dark, rich and mysterious piece would fit perfectly on a Halloween concert or festival. This is the kind of music students love to play. 10457585 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 n Variations on an Irish TuneBrian Balmages. Based on Thomas Moore's famous song The Minstrel Boy, this work uses the full gamut of styles and techniques, from bagpipe drones to lyrical playing and even fiddle music. The work is composed of three variations that run together seamlessly. The first variation presents the entire tune, much more upbeat than it is usually performed. The second, lyrical section is absolutely beautiful and offers an opportunity for working on musicianship and phrasing without overextending the group technically. The final section is fiddle music and takes the audience on a thrill ride that builds to a glorious conclusion. A wonderful piece to showcase your group! 10008688 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 n VikingSoon Hee Newbold. Take on the dynamic spirit of the ancient Vikings in this energetic piece! Violins utilize low 2nd finger, while basses have limited low 1s. 10454265 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Viola CountryRichard Meyer. Spotlight your magnificent violas in this feature with Western flavors, and give your "unsung heroes" a chance to show off. Includes a heroic opening, a flashy "fiddle" melody and a flowing legato section. Easy to rehearse, and fun for every section! 10370736 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 49.00 WinstrideDoug Spata. In this sunny, playful piece, the notes and rhythms are basic. There are great counting challenges and a minor-key middle section that offers nice contrast, but young players will hardly notice the challenges. 10453639 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 48.00 Breathless—Stephen Chin. Flight, fright or fight? Whatever the feeling, this work will leave you breathless! The edgy rhythms and changes of meter are certainly evocative of a desperate pursuit.
