The melodies used in the piece go back to themes sketched by the composer for a virtuoso work for solo violin and orchestra. After changing his mind, Rimsky-Korsakov decided to make the work a display piece for the entire orchestra. This arrangement features two sections of the original capriccio: the Alborada (morning serenade) and the Fandango of the Asturias, a dance traditionally played with guitar and castanet accompaniment. Tastefully arranged by Richard Meyer, Rimsky-Korsakov's flashy showpiece is now playable by the less-experienced orchestra. 10015175 Full Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . 59.00 H The Commencement Suitearr. Schubert composed his incidental music to the Romantic drama "Rosamunde, Princess of Cypress" in less than three weeks, finishing just two days before the play's premiere in December of 1823. Not much time was left to rehearse the music, and no time at all to compose an overture. In fact, Schubert never did compose an overture to "Rosamunde," but instead used an overture already composed for the drama "The Magic Harp."
