November 21, 1852. He was trained at the Madrid
Conservatory where he studied composition and
was proficient on both guitar and piano. Through his

have established the foundations for 20th-century
classical guitar and for increasing interest in the
guitar as a recital instrument. Virtuoso marimbist
Jack Van Geem's transcriptions of Tárrega's works
