Here's a great concert selection for medium level ensembles! Very effective use of color and rhythm make this a good choice for adding a little variety to your program. Scored for 11 to 12 players: bells; xylophone; marimba (4.5 oct., 2 players); vibes; chimes; timpani; snare drum; sleigh bells; bass drum; cymbals; finger cymbals; tam tam; mark tree; 4 concert toms; triangle and bongos. 10023231 Percussion Ensemble . . . . . 45.00 l StrataTom Morgan. As the name implies, Strata is written in layers. One layer is presented and another layer or layers appear over it. It was originally written for a very large group, so the keyboard parts may be doubled as needed. It was premiered at the 9th Annual Northeast Kansas Total Percussion Camp at Washburn University, and performed at the Mass Percussion Extravaganza featuring all the campers. Scored for 14-plus players, you're going to need a big stage for this one! 10470329 Percussion Ensemble 14-17 Players . . . . . . . . . . 36.00 H Three Asiatic DancesGeorge Frock. (1.) triangle, suspended cymbal, bells; (2.) chimes, 5 brake drums; (3.) 3 high tom toms/roto toms, triangle, wood block; (4.) suspended cymbal; (5.) 2 low tom toms, tambourine, 4 temple blocks; (6.) bass drum, vibraphone, tamtam. 3 movements. 1007871 Percussion Sextet. . . . . . . . 13.95 l Traveling MusicStanley Leonard. Traveling Music is a theater piece. It combines humor, sight, and sound into a package that transcends the concert music genre. An imaginary journey that explores the music of the planet Earth, the work brings unique sounds found in many of our world cultures. Many standard concert instruments are used along with others that are more exotic including; caxixi, dobachi, cuica, surdo and 10 suitcases. That's right ... suitcases. Intrigued? 10458076 Percussion Ensemble . . . . . 19.95 n Upbeat SuiteP.I. Tchaikovsky, Modest Mussorgsky & Georges Bizet/arr. Brian Slawson. Upbeat Suite is an arrangement for percussion quartet of three orchestral excerpts that share common rhythmic elements of upbeat, or 2-beat, feels: Dance of the Little Swans by Tchaikovsky; Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks by Mussorgsky; and, from "Carmen," Danse Boheme by Bizet. Their cheerful nature dictates a light, bouncy style and is enhanced by the use of grace notes and appoggiaturas. A frequent arranger of classical themes, Slawson is adept at capturing the character of the original while still writing idiomatically, and in this case accessibly, for small mallet quartet. This is a rare marriage that will have you thinking "Suite" thoughts of your developing ensemble. 10435072 Percussion Ensemble with CD-ROM. . . . . . . . . . . 40.00 n Vertigo SchmertigoChris Brooks. This challenging yet playable rudimental drum quartet can work in both the concert and marching environment. Scored for marching snare, tenors (quints), one high marching bass drum and one low marching bass drum. A few cymbals are also included for those big-impact moments. Performance time is about two and a half minutes. 10083708 Percussion Ensemble . . . . . 20.00 Large Percussion Ensembles Medium-Advanced and Advanced American PatrolF. Meacham/Houllif. (1.) bells, field drum; (2.) xylophone, (marimba or vibes), wood block; (3.) 2 timpani; triangle; (4.) snare drum; (5.) bass drum; (6.) cymbals. 2105344 Percussion Sextet. . . . MA 13.50 n Anitra's DanceEdvard Grieg/arr. Brian Blume. Composed by Edvard Grieg, Anitra's Dance is preceded by In the Hall of the Mountain King in the famous Peer Gynt Suite. Originally scored for strings and triangle, and with a great deal of pizzicato playing in the strings, it allowed for a fairly seamlessly transfer to the idiom of percussion ensemble. The timbral palette is expanded by the addition of several nonpitched percussion instruments, and some of the melodic material has been enhanced by arpeggiated harmonies and rapid scalar passages, particularly in the marimba voice. The result is a lovely classical adaptation that can serve as a quiet programming contrast. 10435057 Percussion Ensemble with CD-ROM. . . . . . . MA 40.00 H Blue Rondo a La TurkDave Brubeck/arr. Cockarell. This arrangement of Dave Brubeck's classic jazz standard is a great addition to your jazz settings for percussion ensemble. Scored for eight performers, this very fast, over four-minute arrangement lends itself extremely well to the percussion idiom. Instruments needed include xylophone, two marimbas (one 4-1/2, one 4-1/3 octave), two vibraphones, tambourine, low wood block, splash and suspended cymbal, congas, drumset, and bass guitar. Enjoy. 10083714 Percussion Ensemble . . MA 45.00 l Blunder and Thazesarr. Larry Lawless. As the spoonerized title suggests, you've found a slap stick arrangement of Julius Fucik's Thunder and Blazes (also known as Entry of the Gladiators). The melody of the original circus march gets a treatment of whistles, ratchets and other clownish effects giving a rollicking boost to the spirit of Fucik's masterpiece. If you're in search a piece that'll wake up your audience and make them smile, look no further! 10494381 Percussion Ensemble 12 Players . . . . . . . . . MA 45.00 Brazilian BeatJoel Smales. This creative collection presents six originals in a variety of Brazilian drumming styles. The scoring calls for agogo bells, shaker, whistle, cowbell, samba whistle, ganza, repenique, snare drum and surdo. If not all equipment is available, suggestions for substituting with more traditional instruments are provided. Parts can also be doubled to create a massive sound in the Brazilian tradition. Your audience will have a blast! 10351248 Percussion Quintet . . . MA 14.50 Celestial WelcomeKristen Shiner McGuire. A fast-moving mixed-meter work with a contrasting rubato section. Good four mallet writing that's not too difficult. Scored for: glockenspiel; vibraphone; marimba; chimes (tubular bells); snare drum/tam tam/suspended cymbal; bass drum, cymbals (crash cymbals/suspended cymbals) and timpani. A terrific concert selection! 10023383 Percussion Ensemble . . MA 21.95 n ContinuumIan Briskey. Written to convey a progression of continuous motion, this relatively short piece provides percussion quartets with numerous opportunities to demonstrate musicality. Be it through extreme dynamic ranges, demanding rudimental control, and ensemble timing and blend, the range of musical touches will be enjoyed by players and listeners alike. 10435055 Percussion Ensemble with CD-ROM. . . . . . . MA 33.00 n Creepy Little Wiggly ThingsGary Gilroy. Written for a large number of percussionists, 13 total, this piece requires a variety of instruments both common and a little more unique that might be associated with the title. Of special interest are: small egg shaker; cabasa; water gong; bamboo wind chimes; flexatone; whip and vibraslap. This fun energetic composition is perfect for the growing ensemble or any ensemble that just wants to have some fun! 10038007 Percussion Ensemble 13 Players . . . . . . . . . MA 40.00 n DoorsDave Hall. Doors represents the best of what is being written for the contemporary large percussion ensemble. Hall's complex textures, engaging harmonies and heart-pounding syncopated rhythms combine to create a masterwork that should not be missed. 10320746 Percussion Ensemble with Piano . . . . . . . . . MA 60.00 l Drum CelebrationStanley Leonard. This work highlights the sounds of instruments that, through the ages, have related the spirit of humankind to the rhythms of life, the heartbeat of the earth, and the motion of history. The piece begins with a magical snare drum rhythm, which intensifies with added bass drum, cymbals, tam-tam, and timpani. The music progresses to a climactic, foot-stomping celebration of the drum! This piece is scored for eight snare drums, two cymbals, small gong, tam- tam, bass drum, and timpani. An elegant piece! 10479265 Percussion Ensemble. . . . . . . . MA 17.99 l ErlkonigFranz Schubert/arr. by David Steinquest. The epic work by Franz Schubert has been skillfully arranged for percussion ensemble by David Steinquest. Being a primarily melodic piece, the mallet instruments are accompanied by standard orchestral battery and Timpani. Many will recognize the introductory theme from cartoons of old. 10494390 Percussion Ensemble 14 Players . . . . . . . . . . . A 45.00 n FunkadunkScott Higgins. This mixed-meter jam for percussion ensemble does masterful things with timbral interplay without losing any of its forward motion or rhythmic creativity. The triangle part underpins more disjunct figures in the toms and bass drum, with wood block hits punctuating the alternation between 5/8 and 6/8 bars, or between 2, 3, and 4/4 later in the piece. For everyone's sake, let's hope that no one tries to clap along at your concert. The audience can just save their clapping for the end of this fantastic bit of fun and funk! 10435062 Percussion Ensemble with CD-ROM. . . . . . . . . A 45.00 4 Hillbilly HeavenMurray Houllif. This country- swing crowd pleaser simulates a kickin' bluegrass band from start to finish! In the half-time rock section, ad lib solo riffs by woodblocks, tambourine, and guiro (or washboard) are backed by drum set and unison hand claps. 10492392 Percussion Ensemble 8 Players . . . . . . . . . . MA 17.50 H Linus and LucyVince Guaraldi/arr. Crockarell. This classic holiday favorite provides the perfect setting for the upbeat percussion ensemble. Scored for the developing student, this just over three-minute piece shares the traditional "Peanuts" theme along with a nice jazz riff section in the middle. Scored for eight performers using bells, xylophone, marimba, two vibraphones, large shaker, bongos, congas, bell tree, drumset and bass guitar, this will certainly have your holiday concert swinging. 10083709 Percussion Ensemble . . Sure to impress! 5622212 Percussion Ensemble . . MA 45.00 l Minor InfractionRick Dior. Masterful composer Rick Dior brings us a short, sweet, and somewhat perilous ride through both light and dark territory. Minor Infraction is scored for 9 to 13 percussionists, playable as a mallet- and timpani-only ensemble or with a full complement of orchestral batterie and some Latin percussion. This original composition starts off with a sweet yet simple melody expressed very intimately by a lone marimba and is soon joined by other voices in harmonious fashion. Complexity then creeps out of the woodwork with complex time signatures, extremely fast tempi, and a three-part musical canon performed in the round. Finally, as if awakening from a dream, the piece ends as it began with the solo marimba melody. Well-crafted and a joy for the listener! 10497325 Percussion Ensemble 9-13 Players Book/CD-ROM . . . . . . MA 45.00 n New South AfricaBela Fleck/arr. John Hearnes. A popular tune by Bela Fleck, arranged for more advanced percussion ensembles. Scored for 10 players, including bass and drumset. 10005581 Percussion Ensemble . . . An elaborate piece for large percussion ensemble that is designed to create a hypnotic sense of euphoria by way of layered, repetitive figures and colorful textures. The piano plays a substantial role in adding to the overall landscape, and the piece will require all players to have a keen sensitivity for how the whole ensemble is greater than the sum of its parts. This piece is unique and challenging, and also quite accessible for a wide variety of audiences. A CD- ROM containing an audio recording and printable parts is included. 10346200 Percussion Ensemble . . MA 48.00 n Sizzle!Nathan Daughtrey.
