The wages of sin for you and me were paid. In full. No last fragment of guilt or shame or shred of a filthy rag of earned righteousness was left. It was finished. And the Savior breathed His final breath. It. Is. Finished. [music begins to "It Was Finished (Underscore 2)"] His head fell. Lungs went flat. Heart stopped. The Tree of Life had become a tree of death. Darkness covered the land . . . because . . . the Son had died. (ms. 7) Our sin had crushed our Savior. No, "I'm sorry" can bring Him back. No, "I'll try to be good enough" can start His heart beating again. They took His lifeless, bleeding body down. Wrapped it in a linen shroud, and laid it in a cold, dark tomb in a memorial garden. A garden. It was in one garden where life began. But in this garden is the end of hope. The close of an era. The death of a dream. A massive stone is rolled to cover the entrance, scraping rock against rock. We cover our ears, hoping to shut out the finality of death. And then we go home. Sleep is impossible. We toss and turn and wonder why? And what if? There are no black and white answers. (music segues to "The Day Before") No light to illuminate the darkness. Only gray. The Son is gone. Sunk down behind the hill of Golgotha, leaving only fear and shadows. NARRATOR: 48 For Preview Only
