4 Drying Their Wings—Greg Gilpin. Greg's
stunning setting of the Vachel Lindsay poem
features an expressive accompaniment that flows
and weaves underneath the soaring melodic
lines which seem to rise and fall, as if flying.
This exquisite text allows for interpretation on
many levels and sparks imaginative imagery.
A wonderful teaching piece, it is also a superb

e Eatnemen Vuelie (Song of the Earth)—
Frode Fjellheim/arr. Emily Crocker. The opening
musical number from the Disney animated feature
"Frozen," this song is inspired by indigenous
Saami and Norwegian culture, a combination
of Saami yoiking and the Danish Christmas
hymn Dejlig er jorden, or Fairest Lord Jesus, by
B.S. Ingemann. Yoik is a very old vocal tradition
among the Saami people of Scandinavia and
Russia, characterized by short melodic phrases
that repeat again and again, with small variations.
With English, German and Norwegian versions
of the text, synthesizer, percussion and optional
male yoik.

The text is well balanced between Spanish
and English, with lots of fun "la-la-la" phrases.

star, gently glowing star, fill our souls with peace
tonight. Play for us the gentle strains of your
symphony of light."

H For the Beauty of the Earth—John Rutter.
John Rutter's engaging melody over a flowing
accompaniment is equally beautiful in either the
SATB or SA treatment. If you haven't already,
consider the instrumental accompaniment for a
fresh perspective on this sacred gem. Scored for
strings, winds, harp (playable on keyboard), and
drums, it includes instrumental lines that are as
lovely as the vocal lines. A perennial favorite, this
is a tasteful blend of text and musical expression.

4e Foreign Lands—Kathleen Ballantyne. This win-
some poem from Robert Louis Stevenson's
A Child's Garden of Verses depicts a child's
view of the world from atop a tree. It is set in
the most charming way, with a playful melody,
complementary counterlines and a nimble
piano accompaniment. "Up into the cherry
tree, who should climb but little me? I held the
trunk with both my hands, and looked abroad
in foreign lands..." This is simply delightful!

e Gather by the River to Pray—arr. Pepper
Choplin. Two traditional American folk hymns,
Down to the River to Pray and Shall We Gather at
the River, are creatively blended together in this
outstanding anthem. Accessible choral writing
delivers warm texture throughout as each song
is first presented separately and then in tandem.
Just as a river, the text flows gently above a
simple yet supportive keyboard accompaniment.

Juneau. Stephen Foster's beautiful song comes
to life again in this sensitive, lyrical a cappella
setting. The choir has many opportunities to
shimmer throughout the piece, especially in the
sustained tones which invoke an ethereal sense
of longing. "Thou wilt come no more, gentle
Annie, like a flow'r thy spirit did depart; Thou art
gone, alas, like the many that have bloomed in the
summer of my heart..."

Wilson. Developing choirs will have a great time
with this fun, rhythmic setting! The Latin text is
easy, and the ranges are perfect for changing
voices. Each part gets to sing the melody at
some point, and the rhythmic energy is infectious,
especially when you use the optional bongos,
congas and triangle. Highly recommended!

4t Glorious Peace—John Parker & Patti Drennan.
e "Peace, glorious peace, talkin' 'bout a peace,
glorious peace..." A syncopated opening bass
figure lays the groundwork for this original
a cappella spiritual. As the other parts join in, the
texture, harmony and form develop, consistent
with the great spiritual tradition. With some divisi
in the women's voices, this is a fresh, excellent
contribution to the a cappella literature!

TRANSFORM YOUR
CHOIR'S SOUND
Exceptional Choral Singing with
Bel Canto Vocal Principles
Laurier Fagnan. Transform Your Choir's
Sound was presented at the 2015 National
ACDA Conference in Salt Lake City. On
this exceptional DVD you will experience
75 minutes of instruction by Dr. Laurier
Fagnan to help transform your choir.
Dr. Fagnan has dedicated his career to
helping choirs create a more beautiful, en-
ergized, in-tune and well-blended sound.
This method is the result of Dr. Fagnan's
years of research on the singing voice and
vocal acoustics, as well as his hands-on
experience working with hundreds of
choirs around the globe. While bel canto
principles are typically associated with
solo singing, they have been extended
here to benefit the art of choral singing.
The transformative results of this method
can be seen in cutting-edge, real-time
acoustical analysis that vividly displays the
difference in the sound before and after
the principles and techniques are applied.
An instructional book with detailed ex-
planations of all principles that are on the
DVD is included.
