( SFX—Grinding Generator noise as it powers on) (Lights come up dimly and flicker. Staff and Choir cheer appropriately.) HAL: Looks like we're up and running . . . well, as much as possible with a generator, right? DONNA: Fabulous! Okay, Jannie and Venus, let's give Christmas to our listeners! VENUS: Okay, folks, here we go. Everybody ready? (Staff all nod, give thumbs up, etc. Jannie is much more reluctant to give a thumbs up. Light dims and stays on through the end of the program until lights come on full) ( On Air 5/Station Jingle) "On Air" sign lights up. VENUS: K-I-N-G Radio is back on the air! We might be running on a back-up generator, but we have tons of holiday cheer, and are ready to bring you a Christmas Eve program to remember! (Jannie has her head in her hands and shakes her head at Venus' line, etc., then pops up when it is her turn.) VENUS: Joining us in the studio this evening, we have a busload of young people who have taken shelter from the storm here at K-I-N-G Radio. Gertie, what can you tell us about our guests? GERTIE: (from the standing mic near the choir, in her best "game show host announcer" voice) Well, Venus, we just happened to have . . . an entire choir . . . all the way from . . . Bethlehem, Pennsylvania! JANNIE: (disbelief) You're kidding me!? VENUS: Well, how about that, K-I-N-G listeners? A choir, straight from Bethlehem! They look just like little angels! (pause) And now, on this dark and stormy Christmas Eve night, we present to you, K-I-N-G's original production of "The Light of Christmas," created by our very own Hal Nickels! (holds up her script to read from) [ music begins to "Christmas Medley–Part 1 (O Come, O Come, Emmanuel)"] t < 9 u < 11 y < 10 25 For Preview Only
