ABOUT THE COMPOSER/ARRANGER
John Leavitt's career has included more than three decades
as a practicing Church Musician and twenty years as a
University Music Professor and Director of Choral Activities.
He has served as director for community choirs for both chil-
dren and adults and has been a published composer of sacred
and secular music for more than thirty years. He is a doctoral
conducting graduate from the University of Missouri-Kansas
City Conservatory of Music which honored him in 2012 as
Alumni of the Year. He has won awards from the American
Society of Authors, Composers, and Publishers, the Kansas
Arts Commission, as well as many others. He has written commissioned works for multiple
events, institutions, and organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts, the
Kansas Music Educators Association, the St. Olaf Choir, the University of Colorado, and the
City of Northbrook, Illinois to name a few.
Dr. Leavitt is a regular guest conductor at Carnegie Hall in New York where many of his
works have been premiered and performed. He has made several appearances at the
Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Much of his music and many of his arrangements have
become standard repertoire, being performed regularly in more than 30 countries across
the globe.
