From the pen of Aric Branchfield comes this exotic and exciting work that conveys the drama of the high seas in the days of pirates and buccaneers. It is just the work to capture the imaginations and emotions of young players eager to make music. A swashbuckling good time! 10617701 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . E 45.00 10617702 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 12.00 l Erebus and Terror: The Lost Ships— Victor Lopez. Images of excitement, bravery and sorrow depict the search for the Northwest Passage. The anticipation of the start is heard with a rousing melodic theme which then ebbs as the gravity of their journey sinks in, but courage is again renewed as the trumpets tell the story. The tragic crash of the ships ends the piece with strong chromatic dissonances. The journey is over, but not the story of these brave explorers. 10609507 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . ME 74.00 10609508 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 4 The Forgotten Village—Michael Oare. This overture for second-year players tells the musical story of Portsmouth Village, once a bustling sea village on North Carolina's Outer Banks, but now a ghost town with past glories only a memory. In this descriptive work, the slow and reflective opening paints the picture of empty buildings and lost glory. A vibrant faster section relives the hope and promise of the past with driving rhythms and melodic lines passed from section to section. 10625770 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . E 45.00 10625771 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 4 From the Concord Chronicles— Tyler S. Grant. Travel back in time to 1775 and the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the tipping point for the American Revolutionary War. These fiery engagements are depicted with a slow, ominous introduction as soldiers gather to await the arrival of British forces. As the battle ensues, the music frantically portrays the struggle between the two sides, and the percussion emulates the sound of cannon bursts and rifles. An aggressive and historical tribute of significant merit! 10607760 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . E 50.00 10607761 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7.00 l Great Wall—William Owens. Experience the fire and ferocity of the Chinese Ming dynasty military through this bold, explosive work! Relive the incredible events of history with Hannibal's famous journey through the Alps with elephants. As with his incredible beasts, the music is strong and ponderous at times and will serve as vivid inspiration for the imaginations of young band musicians. The careful writing will make your beginners sound much more mature than they are, impressing their parents with how great they sound. 10616273 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . The monumental events that helped shape Ireland's history and fan the flames of freedom are recalled in this sparkling medley of tunes from Ireland's rebellious past. The familiar Minstrel Boy leads to a lively setting of Wind That Shakes the Barley. The haunting yet dramatic Foggy Dew follows, leading to the stirring march The Boys of Wexford which features tin whistles (optional flutes or piccolo) along with a driving and Celtic-flavored rhythmic pulse. 10625762 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . E 55.00 10625763 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7.50 l Letters from the Battlefield— Barry E. Kopetz. This evocative work derives its inspiration from the collected letters of General Ulysses S. Grant written during the Civil War. They reveal a wealth of information about the feelings he experienced during this great conflict, and the music reflects this wide gamut of emotions. From warm and tenderhearted to somber and melancholy, and ultimately triumphant, the music rings out with all the weight and resonance of his written words. An outstanding concert work that's perfect for Civil War commemorations or patriotic events. 10570630 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . ME 70.00 10570631 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 10.00 l Music for the Queen's Court— arr. Mekel Rogers. Take a trip back in time to the royal court of Queen Elizabeth I with this faithful rendering of two Renaissance favorites. Music for the Queen's Court gives young bands the opportunity to play exciting dance music from the 16th century with all the characteristic charm of a royal banquet. Comfortable ranges in the winds and active percussion parts make this piece easy to rehearse and perform. A great choice for a contrasting work in your next performance. 10607780 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . E 50.00 10607781 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 l Presidential Suite—Michael Oare. Using a suite format, this work focuses on three of our country's founding fathers. The first movement, Mount Vernon, is a serene musical impression of the home of George Washington. Monticello is the second movement and portrays the stately musical style of Thomas Jefferson's time. The suite concludes with Montpelier, the home of James Madison, and uses bold and majestic motifs to portray the broad and magnificent landscape of Madison's estate. 10625728 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . M 75.00 10625730 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7.50 l Reflections from the Wall—David Shaffer. This commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War was inspired by a visit to the Vietnam War Memorial and the power of this spectacular monument. Opening with a simple depiction of a cloud-covered morning, it broadens into a dramatic and powerful presentation as the sun triumphantly breaks through the clouds. Emotion, reflection and a sincere thanks to those who served are the driving musical elements of this powerful piece. 10609571 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . ME 74.00 10609572 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 4 Shrine of the Fallen—Brian Balmages. Written in response to the tragic events in Kiev in 2014, this music draws on the old Ukrainian folk song Plyve Kacha, which became an anthem for many protestors as a symbol of national pride while also mourning the fallen. Described by the composer as Arabian Dances meets Moscow, 1941, the music is incredibly powerful yet introspective. Quotes of the Ukrainian national anthem add to the intensity of the music, which features the instrumentalists singing in four-part harmony at the very end of the piece. Absolutely stunning! 10607794 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . M 85.00 10607795 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 12.00 l The Tears of Arizona—Brian Balmages. Commissioned to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the music begins very solemnly, referring to the "tears" of oil that continue to be shed daily by the sunken ship. The section The Pride of Arizona moves past the tears and to the pride of the crew members and the feeling of the "spirit of aloha." Percussion loosely imitates the groove of a luau, yet is juxtaposed with moments of pause and reflection. The final statement feels incomplete, reminding the audience that the tears have not stopped flowing. Magical! 10607812 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . VE 50.00 10607813 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 l Variations on a Civil War Tune— arr. Michael Story. The traditional folk tune The Cumberland's Crew was inspired by the historic naval battle between the wooden U.S.S. Cumberland and the ironclad C.S.S. Virginia in 1862. The light and airy melody in 3/4 time is treated to a variety of textures and voicings as it builds to a dramatic conclusion. This work for developing bands shows how music can tell a story and provides an opportunity for cross-curricular teaching. 10601522 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . .
