Celtic Farewell—Michael Sweeney.
Music has the power to help us heal after the loss
of loved ones. Here the beloved traditional Scottish
ballad The Parting Glass is combined with an
original melody to create a beautifully paced and
sensitive musical memorial. A key element of this
work is the use of Highland bagpipes that adds to
the Celtic flavor. If a pipe player is not available, this
part is cued in multiple band parts or you can use a
synthesizer with bagpipe patch. A moving tribute for
any memorial.

While not specifically programmatic, this piece has
many programmatic elements. The idea of peering

which picks up steam as you imagine whitewater
rafting through the turbulent waters below. The
serene vistas can then be heard and felt in the
folkloric middle section before one last breathtaking
romp through the boiling rapids.

Lanigan's Ball—Ed Kiefer. Music from Ireland
is very intriguing to audiences and musicians. It fits
so well with concert band instrumentation that it
always sounds great, and this piece is no exception.
Starting with a solo clarinet playing a lively jig,
it blossoms into a dramatic presentation of the
folk song before relaxing into a section of repose
based on the song Binnorie. The percussion is then
highlighted in a build-up to the rousing climax where
the tunes are combined for a dramatic conclusion.

touching melody. This arrangement is not a direct
transcription of the song but rather a carefully
scored rendition that supports and enhances the
original, allowing the simple beauty of the melody to
be placed on full display.
