Here's the full big-band version of Gordon Goodwin's The Cannonball Run! It's a high-energy Latin/pop cooker that moves along at a pretty good clip, around 240 bpm. The saxophone lead is soprano instead of alto, the lead trumpet range is written to high F, and there's solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4, and trombones 1 and 2. A hot sax section soli and some counterpoint round out this cannonball. Very hot stuff! 10513952 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 72.00 n Captain MarvelChick Corea/arr. Mike Tomaro. This jazz fusion classic by Chick Corea was recorded by Stan Getz in 1972 and also by Chick Corea with his group Return to Forever on the landmark album Light as a Feather. In this exciting version for mature jazz ensembles, Mike Tomaro retains the highly energetic samba feel of the original while adding some creative touches of his own. Nobody does cha-cha like Michael Mossman. This inventive original features a smooth harmonic structure and a nice blend of innovative melodies with carefully crafted accompaniment figures. A 60.00 l Ciudad de Oro (City of Gold)Bob Washut. Ciudad de Oro is a Latin/jazz original based on a funky type of timba, a recent Cuban rhythmic style based on a 3:2 clave. It's an exciting composition that includes active parts for all players, varied textual ensembles, and an open solo section with solo sheets and chord changes included. This will be an effective change-of-pace tune for any performance or festival set! 10604650 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 52.00 Cuban OvertureGeorge Gershwin/arr. Chris Sharp. A serious work adapted from the symphonic poem composed by George Gershwin, arranger Chris Sharp has accepted the challenge to create this amazing arrangement for big band. This chart is a primarily a bright samba but it has a slow middle section which reverts to the fiery samba groove. The written or improvised solo space is for alto 1 and trumpet 2 and the lead trumpet range is to D above the staff. A percussion part is included as well. This is a brilliant arrangement and will certainly be a high point in any concert or festival performance. 10277947 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 55.00 Cubauza!Michael Philip Mossman. This exciting Afro-Cuban composition is the opening cut from the 1993 album 944 Columbus, the final recoding by Mario Bauza, one of the most influential figures in the development of Latin jazz. The title comes from combining the words "Cuban" and "Bauza" and features a bebop influence interpreted by the Afro-Cuban rhythm section. This newly edited and engraved edition is a "must have" for mature bands. 10282975 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 60.00 4 El AbrazoAlan Baylock. The beautiful ballad beginning and ending in this Alan Baylock original will bring tears to your eyes. The chart then moves to an exciting samba around 110 bpm for the half note with occasional swing sections interspersed. The lead trumpet range is to written high C and there is an extended tenor sax solo with chord changes. You won't forget this chart, it's special in every way. A truly stunning chart, this one will provide plenty of opportunities for your band to shine - it's the perfect festival chart. Highly recommended! 10593791 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 60.00 Eleanor RigbyLennon & McCartney/arr. Eric Richards. Commissioned by the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, this Eric Richards chart shines new light on the beauty and depth of this classic Beatles hit. An up-tempo Brazilian groove gives way to hints of samba and songo, but always with a smooth and laid-back feel. A piano solo is featured off the top, followed by a trio of tenor, trombone and guitar on the head, and later solo space for one or more of these players. A brief nod to the classical feel of the original Beatles track helps build to a climatic shout for the full ensemble. Nice! 10343782 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 60.00 4 Fiesta en la CalleMatt Amy. With a street party atmosphere, here's a high-energy Latin chart that fuses Tito Puente with Arturo Sandoval and the modern writing of Gordon Goodwin. After the rhythm section sets up a quasi-tumbao/salsa feel, the saxophones support the piano montuno before moving into the full band introduction. Additionally, this chart features unison writing across the ensemble in the melody line and supportive roles within the sections and some high trumpet playing. After a development section and solos from various horn players, the chart moves to an open drum solo before returning to restate the theme. Culminating with a powerful and exciting ending, Fiesta en la Calle is great for festivals, contests and concerts! 10625430 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 57.00 Gentle RainLuiz Bonfa/arr. Kris Berg. A wonderful tune with rich textures and voicings, Gentle Rain is a solo vehicle for C, B-flat, E-flat or bass clef instruments and is especially nice for flute or vibes. The bossa nova tempo is 126 bpm and the lead trumpet range is to written B above the staff. Highly recommended! 10353488 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 60.00 4 GilbraltarFreddie Hubbard/arr. Mike Kamuf. Gibraltar is a Freddie Hubbard jazz standard recorded by many jazz giants. It's a very hip samba that cooks at around 180 bpm with written-out solos provided for trumpet 2 and tenor sax 2, plenty of action for the drummer, and a lead trumpet range to written A. Also included are a few snippets of Freddie Hubbard licks throughout. Playable with optional expanded instrumentations, this is a smokin' chart in every way! 10593775 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 52.00 4 KilimanjaroOliver Nelson/ed. Bob Curnow. Originally recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album Afrique, Kilimanjaro is a mesmerizing, easy-feeling Latin composition which pulses along with a constant tumbao bass groove and infectious percussion. Featuring flute and trumpet on the melody, this chart has a very bluesy touch and allows for soloists as chosen. Moderate brass ranges (highest note for trumpet is a written D), a written-out bass line throughout, and flexible solos make this outstanding chart playable by many bands. 10607221 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . It's majestic, powerful and noble and includes written solo space for tenor sax and an optional Latin percussion part. Optional parts are included for flute, horn in F, baritone/tenor sax and tuba.
