Designed for a combined concert with ensembles from the elementary, middle, and high school levels, The Three Knight's Quest is an inspiring work intended to have flexibility and creativity for each particular performance. You can assign each group's "knight" a color based upon school colors complete with banners. It's a great way to end any multi-level concert. 10568219 Multi-Level Orchestra . . . . . 60.00 n To Tame the Raging RapidsBrian Balmages. Exhilarating! This work describes mankind's constant fascination with some of the most powerful forces in nature. As the work opens, the beauty of the water and its sound calms the listener. Soon, however, we plunge into the water and test ourselves against the raging rapids. Highly rhythmic and compelling, this work is destined to thrill all who perform it. Can your orchestra tame the untamable? 10047960 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 n Two Scenes from the HollowKirt Mosier. This two-movement piece is based on "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." The first section, entitled Ichabod's Walk, is introduced with lines from the American classic: "What fearful shapes and shadows beset his path amidst the dim and ghastly glare of a snowy night!" The second movement, entitled Hessian's Ride, is introduced with lines that end "... the apparition of a figure on horseback without a head. It is said by some to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper." The chilling music will be the highlight of your concert! Highly recommended! 10050296 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 48.00 n Voices in the ShadowsBrian Balmages. Explore mature harmonies with this powerful piece. Orchestrated for strings and piano, the music moves through a series of sections that become increasingly intense, all while the note G sounds nonstop from the first measure until the final chord. The haunting sounds of voices (members of the ensemble) eventually fade into a soft hum before the music reaches its final chord and ultimate resolution. 10454274 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Waltz of the WickedKirt N. Mosier. This wild piece calls for violins and violas to use a one-finger glissando, creating a very eerie effect. Cellos will get to strum three-note chords with their thumb while canonic passages make your group work together as never before. Wicked! 2478798 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 4 Waltzes from a Narrow HouseRobert Moore/ ed. J. Cameron Law. Inspired by the music of a ghost show on TV, the composer borrowed a fragment of the chord progression he heard and used it as the basis to create this composition. Techniques that give the work interest and vitality include inversion, retrograde, counterpoint, and harmonic pandiatonicism reminiscent of Stravinsky. And yes, the title refers to caskets, so this will be a perfectly ghoulish addition to a Halloween concert. 10609950 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 H Warrior LegacySoon Hee Newbold. This inspiring homage to New England pioneers is an original work in which Soon Hee Newbold challenges advancing young orchestras to focus on driving rhythms and emphatic accents. Heroic melodies abound and solos shine with attention to ensemble dynamics. 10091998 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 4 Water ReflectionsYukiko Nishimura. A stunningly beautiful piece for the more advanced ensemble, the melodies are gorgeous and the harmonies are thick and lush. There is nice interplay between all of the sections of the orchestra that serve as reflections in the water. The piece is contrasted by a nice, lilting up-tempo section in the middle before returning to the opening material to bookend the piece. 10592952 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 55.00 4 Winds Through Time: Port Washington Deborah Baker Monday. Port Washington is a community on Long Island, New York that is filled with centuries of history. Situated on a waterfront, it receives intense weather. Capturing Mother Nature at work in Port Washington, this work musically portrays the passage of time in very powerful ways. 10616619 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 55.00 l The Wing GliderDavid Bobrowitz/arr. J. Cameron Law. With a catchy melody that captures the sensation of flight, this piece soars. The sweeping melody, and the 3/4 (in one) tempo, leaves the listener with the sense that this is an exhilarating ride. Whether with the bow, or pizzicato, the feeling of movement never ceases. 10609948 String Orchestra . . . . . . M 50.00 10609949 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 n Zombie IntrudersKirk Vogel/ed. J. Cameron Law. Capturing the feel of the undead creeping ever closer, the composer has incorporated a variety of non-traditional string techniques, including playing behind the bridge, glissando, and instrument body knocks. Creepy sounds from a few percussion instruments are added to the sound mix and layered onto an insistent rock groove to form a scarily colorful, memorable string orchestra production. 10460701 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Original Concert Works Medium-Advanced and Advanced H The Emerald FalconRichard Meyer. Written in the style of a musical score from a super hero movie, this swashbuckling original work conjures up images of flights to freedom and battles with dark nemeses. An array of emotions are displayed in this work that is at times menacing, and at others lyrical and mysterious. A lovely middle section features an extended violin solo and a beautifully tranquil solo for string bass. 10235849 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 56.00 H Ghosts of BrandenburgRichard Meyer. Imagine a fantasy based on all six of the "Brandenburg Concerti!" Not just a cute novelty, but an entirely new work! It captures the spirit of the "Brandenburgs," but sets most of them in minor keys, or uses darker tones, pizzicato, and meter changes J.S. Bach would never have imagined! This is an inventive and challenging work that will take your intermediate strings on an almost nine- minute tour de force that will build their endurance along with their musicality! Highly recommended for concert and contest! 10050371 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 62.00 H IditarodSoon Hee Newbold. Another bold hit from Soon Hee Newbold! Her homage to the frozen tundra race embodies the vastness of the Alaskan trek with twists and turns as your string players move from fast bowed passages to dramatic harmonics and legato depth. A thrilling depiction of the race that tests the mettle of men and their four-legged team mates! 10091996 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 55.00 Idylls of PegasusRichard Meyer. The master of classical arrangements and popular light works, has created a nine-minute work based on the life of the mythical winged horse. This musical depiction of the many adventures of Pegasus, provides your orchestra a wide variety of expressive possibilities. 2475421 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 56.00 l In the Spirit of BachSamuel Adler. Adler was asked to write a short work based upon one of ten sketches that Bach had prepared, but never used, for the Goldberg Variations. The resulting In the Spirit of Bach features "a relentless drive with sixteenths dominating the entire Allegro" and is playable by high school orchestras. For intermediate to advanced. 10563653 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 65.00 KeystoneAlan Lee Silva. Beginning with driving rhythms that build in intensity to a lush violin solo, the full ensemble enters and intertwines two ideas in an incredibly spectacular fashion. 10457551 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 55.00 n Lyric MetalBrian Balmages. Dark, passionate melodies are overcome with heavy metal inflection in this incredibly innovative and unique work for strings. The cello section imitates distorted guitar timbres, while upper strings soar over pulsating rhythms. This piece proves that guitars and drums are not required to rock heavy metal! 10366847 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 55.00 4 Master of DisguiseBrent D. Smith. This original work is a tribute to the life of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty, who played a significant role in saving the lives of Jews and Allied prisoners during World War II. Due to his ability to out-fox frequent traps laid by the Nazis, O'Flaherty was nicknamed the "Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican." Performers should swing the rhythm throughout the piece using a traditional jazz-waltz style. The drum set and piano parts add even more interest to the piece. 10568193 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 50.00 n MeditationJack Jarrett. Meditation is the contemplative, yet colorful third movement from Jack Jarrett's large work, "Serenade for String Orchestra." Lovely for advanced players. 10277888 String Orchestra . . . . . . . A 50.00 l A Moment for PeaceBrian Balmages. Written as a response to the numerous tragedies occurring throughout the world, this music is meant to draw the performer and listener away from the chaos of the world and into a tranquil space. Inspired by Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, the piece is scored for double orchestra but may be played in a traditional seating arrangement. Directors will find that it is also quite effective as a chamber work for smaller orchestras. Stunning, with solo opportunities for every principal player. 10592133 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 60.00 Of Glorious PlumageRichard Meyer. Using the lush and modal harmonies associated with the Impressionistic period, Of Glorious Plumage depicts birds both at rest and in flight. There are no "bird calls" heard here, rather a variety of effects and interesting orchestration, with all of the instruments eventually being featured. The second part of the piece depicts glorious flocks of birds in majestic flight using a hauntingly beautiful melody in 9/8. The piece ends with a brief return of the opening melody. A wonderful exploration into the sonorities and orchestration techniques of the French Impressionists, this mature and fascinating work is sure to be a favorite with the more advanced high school string orchestra. 10026991 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 56.00 n Orion and the ScorpionSoon Hee Newbold. Tension sets in with the opening cello solo, swathed in mysticism and an omen for the adventure to come. Ethereal harmonic colors of the night sky where Orion was imprisoned give way to a high energy, 6/8 main theme, depicting the conqueror's epic journeys that made him a legend. This one packs lots of cinematic thrill for performers and audiences to enjoy! 10307189 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 65.00 n Overture to the WindKirt Mosier. Expressing the many different moods and events of a storm, the opening begins with the violins playing a gripping ostinato pattern suggesting that a storm is coming. The first two themes convey the erratic tendency of powerful gusty winds. The storm moves into a peaceful lull with a melancholy third theme played by a solo violin and viola. The storm then grows in intensity as the final statement combines all the elements (or themes) of the storm. 2253102 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 48.00 H PalladioKarl Jenkins. This is the enchanting music used in the De Beers "Diamonds" commercial! Subtitled Concerto Grosso, it consists of three separate movements, each eminently attractive and using some "minimalist" techniques. Not an arrangement, this is the original work as written by the composer. 5523170 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 65.00 H PerseusSoon Hee Newbold. Take a journey with the legendary hero Perseus in this dynamic and stunning work as he slays the snake-haired Medusa and rescues the princess Andromeda! From the opening rhythmic figures to the soaring melodies, this piece will command the attention of your audience and plunge them into a whirlwind of adventure! Riveting! 10066401 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 55.00 n Point Lookout (A Fantasy on Civil War Songs) Brian Balmages. Inspired by the rich history of Point Lookout State Park in Maryland, this fantasy on civil war songs pays tribute to the remnants of Fort Lincoln, which served as a Civil War fortification. Songs used in the fantasy include: The Battle Cry of Freedom; Battle Hymn of the Republic; and When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again. The piece is tied together with excerpts from America, the Beautiful, which comes in fully toward the end of the work. Magical! 10027381 String Orchestra . . . . . MA 55.00 n Red RhythmicoKirt Mosier. Show off multiple soloists with this slick, original jazz piece for experienced strings. Kirt Mosier brings the heat in this follow up to Blue Rhythmico with the kind of textures that only strings can create with highlighted pizzicato and spiccatto for emphasis. Written solos are included, or players can explore how the music moves them. 10091987 String Orchestra . . . . .
