Dvorak/arr. Steven L. Rosenhaus. Composed
by Dvorak in 1893, his "Symphony No. 9" is his
most popular symphony and one of the most
beloved symphonies in the modern orchestra
repertoire. The symphony has become popularly
known as "The New World Symphony" and was
strongly influenced by Dvorak's fascination and
true interest in Native American music. The Largo
movement (Movement 2) brings with it the simple
melody that has become the most memorable of
all of Dvorak's works.

l Voi, Che SapeteW.A. Mozart/arr. John
Caponegro. This aria from Mozart's opera "The
Marriage Of Figaro" is in the key of D Major and
contacts some interesting modulations. Much of the
charm of this piece results from Mozart's creative
and brief exploration of many tonal centers, and
it is a great example how a composer can take a
relatively simple tune and provide a great deal of
interest through imaginative harmonies.

H The Abduction from the Seraglio (Overture)
W.A. Mozart/arr. Hoffman. From the comic opera
filled with pirates, Turkish princes, kidnapping and
daring rescues, Mozart's The Abduction from
the Seraglio is the piece of music that generated
the (possibly fictional) "too many notes" story. It
is written in the Turkish "janissary" style, a style
of music that fascinated Europe at the time. In
this arrangement, the right hand of the piano is
frequently written 8va to help re-create the piccolo
that figured prominently in the original.
10185412 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00
n AdagiettoGustav Mahler/arr. Keiser. The music
of Gustav Mahler is some of the most emotional
music in the symphonic repertoire. Arranger
Lauren Keiser has adapted this classic movement
from Mahler's "5th Symphony" for school
ensembles and has tamed some of the technical
demands without losing the musical integrity of
this magnificent work. Much of the harp part has
been successfully written into the cello part. Should
a harp player be available, an optional harp/piano
part is provided.
10071063 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 55.00
n AdagioSaint-Saens/Emile Bernard & Joseph
Goodwin. This movement from the popular
symphony is filled with the composer's unique
harmonies that move slowly but inevitably to
the final cadence. There are some brief solos
throughout the orchestra as well as divisi passages
in the cellos and basses.
10523532 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 32.00
n AdagioThomaso Albinoni/arr. Hoffman. Finally,
an arrangement of Albinoni's most famous work
that can be played at your group's level. This
achingly beautiful music is certainly one of the high
points of all Baroque music. Give your strings a
chance to play this one!

Adagio for StringsSamuel Barber/arr. Hoffman.
Samuel Barber's best-known work has become an
icon of contemporary orchestral literature. Jamin
Hoffman's arrangement now makes this landmark
work accessible to advancing groups with key,
range and length adjustments, giving your students
the opportunity to play one of the most important
pieces of our time. This is a must-have for every
string library!

l Aerial for String OrchestraG.F. Handel/arr.
Jerry Weseley Harris. This movement, taken from
Handel's famous "Violin Sonata No. 3," is fun to
play and enjoyable for audiences to hear. Much
attention must be paid to the dynamic contrasts
requested. As with most music of the Baroque
period, the style requires a strong pulse and a clear
beat. A firm martele bow stroke is also necessary
for a strong sound.
