use of a variety of string performance techniques.

Romance in G Major (For Two Solo Violins
and String Orchestra)Ludwig van Beethoven/
arr. Robert McCashin. Beethoven's Romance in
G Major was originally penned as a solo violin
work with orchestra. In this arrangement, it has
been craftily reworked for two violins and string
orchestra. It maintains the entirety of the solo line
(creatively shared by the two soloists) as well as the
full "Beethoven sound" in the orchestration. The
greatest benefit provided by this arrangement is that
it is now much more accessible - not only to younger
violinists, but also to the string orchestra setting.

H Saint Paul's SuiteGustav Holst. Best known

the best of orchestras!

Britten, Holst, and Vaughan Williams before him,
British composer John Rutter has composed a

of folk music of the British Isles. World renowned for
his choral music, John Rutter's work for strings has
become a modern classic. This work is based on
four folksongs: They Are A-Roving; I Have a Bonnet
Trimmed with Blue; O Waly Waly (The Water Is Wide)
and Dashing Away. Duration: 12'. The set includes a
full score and strings parts of 4/4/3/4/2. Give your
orchestra a chance to play this wonderful work.

Inspired by Dvorak's visit to America, original
melodies are found throughout the work and are

Original Concert Works
Very Easy
AdamantLarry Clark. This dramatic piece
cranks right from the start! The work is set in E
minor (but without any C naturals on the A string)
with simple rhythms no more difficult than two
repeated eighth notes. You will hear some biting
dissonances to the flowing main theme.

4
Adventure in IndiaKevin Mixon. Written to
evoke the musical styles heard in Bollywood movie
soundtracks, this work has a strong Indian folk
influence. It also contains a variety of other world
music, which makes the piece fresh and different
from most beginning string pieces.
10592904 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 48.00
Aeolian RockJeffrey Frizzi. This fun-loving
original is guaranteed to motivate beginning string
players by highlighting the strengths of every
section. Unison cellos and basses start off with
an 8-bar groove in A minor before upper strings
come in with a cool melody. Then violas assume
the melodic lead in the middle section of the piece
before a strong tutti finish.

H
AftershockLarry Clark. Beginning with a bold
and aggressive fanfare-type statement and a
number of dramatic pauses, this forceful piece is
sure to make an impact on the audience. Using two
repeated eighth note patterns as the most difficult
rhythm, the theme includes some dissonances that
create musical tension. The dynamics bring out the
emotion of the piece from beginning to end. Intense!
10277937 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00
AirplaneMichael Hopkins. An exciting airplane
ride is depicted in this fun piece for beginning string
groups. The sections of the orchestra enter gradually
and the tempo of the piece increases as the plane
accelerates down the runway and takes off. Gradually
building to a fortissimo, the music then becomes
quieter as the plane descends, and the music
gradually slows as the plane comes to a stop at the
gate. In addition to being a great piece for working on
tempo changes and dynamics, it reinforces a crisp
detached bow stroke on the quarter notes, smooth
repeated eighth notes, and using full bows on the
half notes. Imaginative and effective!

4 Anishinabe (The Spirit of the Winter Wind)
Jeffrey Frizzi. This grade 1 piece written in E
Dorian is ideal for beginning string players. Using
the familiar notes of the D major scale, this is an
ideal piece for a first concert or festival. Students
will delight in getting the opportunity to create the
wind sound as they tell the story.

H AntagonistLarry Clark. In every great story
there is always an antagonist, the character whose
opposing force is central to the success of the
story. This concept has been applied to music in
this selection for string orchestra. The piece is
aggressive and at times purposely antagonizing.
Designed with the youngest of players in mind, it
works on simple repeated eighth-note patterns as
the foundation for the melodic material. Interesting
parts are provided for all instruments, and everyone
gets to play the melody. Impressive!
