Precise, delicate ringing is required, with pluck and swings to help build momentum. Being built on a foundational bass line, an alternative title for worship might be Built on the Sure Foundation. This versatile arrangement of Thomas A. Dorsey's beloved hymn includes optional parts for B-flat clarinet, bass, and drum set. The introduction is very slow and free with the melody being played by handchimes and accompanied by singing bells. What follows is a relaxed gospel treatment of the hymn using a malleted bass line. The bass handchimes take the hymn in the next verse, accompanied by thumb-damped upper treble bells. A grand final verse uses plenty of LV in the bass, full chords, and an improvisatory clarinet solo.
