Handbell Music
My Shepherd's Amazing Gracearr. Karissa
Dennis. From arranger Karissa Dennis, here is
a delightful medley of two beloved hymns, My
Shepherd Will Supply My Need and Amazing Grace.
The singing bell technique is utilized in low chords
while LV in the melody with open intervals adds
beautiful texture over the bass. The echo technique
and optional handchimes give depth, and a lovely
surprise in the end expresses peace.

and highly recommended!

4 O God, Our Help in Ages Pastarr. Ron Mallory.
High, middle, and low bells all get a turn at playing
the melody in this stately setting of the well-known
hymn tune
ST. ANNE. With just a few repeating
patterns of eighth notes and a minimum of bell
changes, this arrangement is an excellent choice
for the progressing ensemble. Optional handchimes
in the middle section provide contrast, and an
optional flute part offers a lively countermelody to
the original tune used in the introduction, interlude,
and ending sections.

to control the mood and timing of the piece.

paced, exciting original composition was designed
to honor the legacy of Cynthia Dobrinski. The

challenging. The judicious usage of martellato and

Passacaglia in C minor (Built on the Sure
Foundation)Fred Gramann. The term
'passacaglia' refers to a set of variations over a
repeating bass line, commonly in triple meter. This
original work by Fred Gramann explores a variety
of handbell textures and techniques, building
from a simple melody to more complex patterns.
Precise, delicate ringing is required, with pluck
and swings to help build momentum. Being built
on a foundational bass line, an alternative title for
worship might be Built on the Sure Foundation.
It was composed for the Ontario Guild of English
Handbell Ringers Festival in Peterborough, Ontario
in May, 2015.

Precious Lord, Take My Handarr. Cathy
Moklebust. This versatile arrangement of Thomas
A. Dorsey's beloved hymn includes optional
parts for B-flat clarinet, bass, and drum set. The
introduction is very slow and free with the melody
being played by handchimes and accompanied
by singing bells. What follows is a relaxed gospel
treatment of the hymn using a malleted bass line.
The bass handchimes take the hymn in the next
verse, accompanied by thumb-damped upper
treble bells. A grand final verse uses plenty of LV in
the bass, full chords, and an improvisatory clarinet
solo. A brief return to the singing bells and melody
in the handchimes brings this soulful arrangement
to its final rest.
