More accessible than most Gordon Goodwin charts, this one is a killer funk tune that is unbelievably exciting! Your jazz band players and audiences will dig the poppin' rhythmic figures, the funky style, outstanding ensemble passages and the high energy. It lays well at around 120 bpm and has written or improvised solos for alto/bari, tenor, trumpet, and trombone. Electric piano will sound great on the funky piano introduction, the lead trumpet range is up to written high C, and optional auxiliary percussion, flute and vibes parts are included. Arranger Peter Blair has taken the hot Gordon Goodwin chart Act Your Age and revised it for developing players. "Slick and funky" describes this very accessible arrangement. There are written solos for 1st alto (cued for 2nd alto) and a 1st trumpet solo cued in all four trumpet parts. The lead trumpet has a written A above the staff, but technically this chart is not difficult and will come together quickly to earn a spot in your program. The band will love it, too! Highly recommended! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10093092 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . ME 48.00 Africa—Paich & Porcaro/arr. Ralph Ford. Here's a wonderful take on the group Toto's classic rock tune from the '80s. It's solidly scored throughout and sounds amazingly like the original while remaining accessible for developing jazz bands. With nice dynamic contrasts, an uncomplicated melodic line, and a medium rock groove, this chart is one that younger players can really dig into, yet it will sound mature when performed by a more advanced group. More features include: half-note tempo of 90 bpm; written or ad lib solos for alto sax 1 and trombone 1; trumpet 1 range to written G on top of the staff; and optional parts for flute, clarinet and vibes. ME 48.00 H Aftershock!—Larry Barton.This funky rock chart sure is easy enough...but we won't tell anyone!It's bold and contemporary with a big sound and huge impact, along with reasonable ranges and technical demands.An open solo section with written suggested solos and very easy changes will really build confidence in improvising.And, the most amazing thing is that such a playable chart sounds so darn hot! 2347961 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . ME 45.00 Angel—Wes Montgomery/arr. Les Sabina. Here's a Wes Montgomery bossa/rock tune that grooves along at around 145 bpm with the melody line played by tenor 1 and trumpet 2. With very playable ensemble sections and hits, this is a great vehicle for teaching style and ensemble cohesiveness. The solos are written or ad lib for tenor sax and piano, the lead trumpet range is to written E top space, and optional parts are included for vibes, flute, clarinet and more. This one is accessible, solid, and includes nice contrasts. Texas writer Paul Baker presents an outstanding funk chart beginning with a piano riff to set up the rhythm groove before the trumpet and altos hit with the melody. Trombones and low saxes support with counterpoint. After the trombones take it through the bridge the saxes again state the melody in a dramatic stop time section that moves into the trumpet and trombone solos. After a drum solo, the bari and bass trombone shine as they set the funky foundation for the shout chorus. A return of the piano riff sets up the final melodic statement and dramatic coda. From Trombone Shorty's acclaimed CD Backatown, here is the hot title cut arranged for big band in a funky medium tempo. Combining the elements of New Orleans second line and contemporary rock styles, this unique chart features a blend of catchy riffs, solid ensemble passages, and stop-time breaks. There are short written or ad lib solos for trumpet and tenor. This chart exudes a spirited and unmistakable New Orleans swagger! 10490289 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . ME 45.00 l Billy Jean—Michael Jackson/arr. John Berry. The song that launched Michael Jackson's famous "moonwalk" was also one of the top- selling singles of the year in 1983. This chart features the signature bass line and catchy melodies and is a great sounding chart for young ensembles or bands with limited rehearsal time. Beautifully paced, it begins with only a piano accompaniment then gradually builds in intensity as the full band layers in. Here is an attractive and smooth samba version for vocal or optional tenor saxophone solo that includes a feature section for the saxes accompanied by the soloist in a "vocalese" style.
