The accompaniment is meant to emulate the sounds of indigenous instruments, such as squeezebox, penny whistle, fiddle, acoustic guitar, and bodhran (or other low-pitched frame drum). The conductor may add some of these instruments in lieu of, or in addition to, the piano accompaniment.
