TEACHING IDEAS for: Share the Hope Use world globes to show the shape of the melody in this song • Cut out small world globes and gather large craft sticks, one per child • Help the children glue or tape their globe to a craft stick • Say, "Melodies can move up, down or stay th same. In 'Share the Hope,' the melody often descends. Hold your globe high and as we sing the downward melody, move your globe up and down to imitate how the music moves up and down." Talk about Hope • Say, "When you look under the Christmas tree, you probably see some presents. One or two of those gifts are probably going to be given to you. You can't see what is inside those presents, but you believe they are intended for you because your name is written on the tag. Hope is kind of like that because hope is what you believe, but cannot see. Jesus is Hope; you can't see Him, but you can believe that He came as a baby to give meaning, purpose and joy." Feel the 6/8 (or triple) meter of this song • Count out loud 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 as you pat your legs on beats 1 and 4 • Have the children join counting and patting with you • Continue to pat on beats 1 and 4 as you echo chant the words in rhythm Think about God's great big love • Find a globe and bring it to rehearsal • Show the students the globe and say, "God made the whole world and He loves everyone in the world." • Form a circle holding hands with the children • Continue, "Let's pretend we are a big globe." • Listen to the recording and step right to the steady beat the first time through; step to the left the second time through the song. Drop hands and clap the steady beat in measures 31-end. Create a rebus to help with memorization • Write the following words on 8 1/2 by 11 pieces of paper: Ocean, Sea, Earth, Share, Know, Jesus' Birth • Encourage the students to illustrate those six words • Now, sing the song holding up those pictures to help jog the students memories 37 Preview Copy
