(music begins to "God with Us - Underscore," page 109) How glorious it must
have been for a band of unlikely shepherds to hear the angel of the Lord
declare "good tidings of great joy," which would be for all people! That
night, in the City of David, a Savior was born. In that moment, the silence
of Heaven was broken with a helpless Baby's cry. Wrapped in swaddling
clothes and lying in a manger was the Son of the living God, our
long-awaited Messiah. It happened just as the prophet had promised when
he said, "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him
Immanuel, 'God with us' . . . and He will save His people from their sins."
(Matthew 1:21) ("God with Us - Underscore"ends)
(music begins to "The Name of Emmanuel," page 110) He was God with us,
then and there, in that lowly stable. And He is God with us, here and now in
this fallen world. God with us, sharing our joys and joining in our sorrows,
drawing near to the brokenhearted with a promise to never leave or forsake
us . . . God with us, now and always. His Name is Jesus, Emmanuel; God
with us, making our hearts His dwelling place.
