Featured on the TV series "The Voice" performed by Ray Boudreaux, this hit from the 1970s is typical of the infectious bluesy style of composer/singer Bill Withers. Here's a funky chart for younger players, and soloing couldn't be easier on the two-chord vamp. This one includes suggested solos and scale/chord sheets in all keys. Smart and stylish! 10523760 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 Walk the Dinosaurarr. John Wasson. This catchy funk tune was recorded by Was (Not Was) in 1987, but more recently popularized in pop culture including the movies "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," "The Flintstones," and "Super Mario Bros." This funky version shows why some tunes just never go out of style. Included is a suggested solo for tenor sax and the signature chant "boom, boom, ack-a lack-a lack-a boom." Pure fun! 10317277 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 H Watermelon ManHerbie Hancock/arr. Mike Kamuf. Oh yeah! This is a crowd pleaser and a band pleaser... a win-win! Fun, funky, hip, groovy — call it what you want, this chart is excellent in every way... and if you have a decent bari player, he or she will really love this one. There are written solos for alto and tenor sax, a stop-time without rhythm section for the saxes, a fantastic interlude section, a monster shout chorus, and some short drum fills... what's not to like!? Very highly recommended! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10071893 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 n What Is Hip?arr. Paul Murtha. Ask the proverbial musical question and let your band roar on the answer! This Tower Of Power chart will let your rhythm section keep the funk going while the horns get into the tight riffs. What is hip? This is! 2445724 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 4 Who Are YouPeter Townshend/arr. John Wasson. Recorded by The Who back in 1971 and used as the theme for TV's CSI, here is a signature rock anthem from one of the hardest rockin' bands ever. This driving chart for developing players will liven up any performance occasion! 10759350 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 4 Wipe Outarr. Dallas Burke. Your audience will go wild with this accessible solo feature for your drummer! This version of Wipeout plays homage to the Surfaris original with plenty of drum solos, but adds a modern-day sound with dynamic horn licks. The middle of the chart transitions to a James Brown-style funk section, then to swing for the solo section before returning to the original rock groove. The ultimate crowd-pleaser! 10752093 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 Jazz/Rock & Funk Medium n Amazing Gracearr. Dave Rivello. Arranger Dave Rivello has taken this well-known traditional melody and brought it to life with his outstanding gospel- sounding chart. Opening with an a cappella brass chorale, it breaks into a gospel/rock shout. The tenor solo is written and a few modulations keep this chart moving onward and upward. A great chart that all will enjoy! 10049793 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 Another StoryMike Tomaro. This straight- eighth fusion chart combines rock and Latin styles effectively, creating a fresh and modern approach for developing groups. The written or improvised solos are for alto sax and piano after the opening ensemble chorus. The rhythm section parts are fully notated and will help in creating the groove. With modest brass ranges, this chart with a cool sound is great for change-of-pace programming! 10515822 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 H Arnge Drank (Orange Juice with Attitude) Paul Baker. Wow... orange drink with an attitude! Texas writer Paul Baker presents an outstanding funk chart beginning with a piano riff to set up the rhythm groove before the trumpet and altos hit with the melody. Trombones and low saxes support with counterpoint. After the trombones take it through the bridge the saxes again state the melody in a dramatic stop time section that moves into the trumpet and trombone solos. After a drum solo, the bari and bass trombone shine as they set the funky foundation for the shout chorus. A return of the piano riff sets up the final melodic statement and dramatic coda. Trumpet range to written High C. Trombone to G. Pure fun, and highly recommended! 10369423 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 n Attitude AdjustmentRich Woolworth. Here's an original funk/rock tune that delivers some serious attitude! With a kickin' bass line doubled in the bass trombone and bari sax, this gets funky at the top and just never stops. The solo section, with written or ad lib solos, moves into a swing feel before getting back into the funk groove to finish out the tune. Fun to hear and fun to play! Highly recommended! 10517401 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Attitude Dance (Little Big Band)arr. Mark Taylor. Celebrating more than 40 years of funk and soul, the unmistakable sound of Tower of Power still sounds as fresh and impressive as ever. This adaptation for six horns (3 saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone) and rhythm section features the blazing horn lines and driving groove of the original. Optional parts are included for alto sax, tenor sax and trombone 2. 10283054 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 n Barbeque SauceMike Carubia. This funk chart roars right from the beginning with an attention- grabbing introduction followed by blues-based melodies with a hip, funky feel. The solos are a piece of cake with only two chords or one scale to negotiate. Any player can solo with the solo scale options included in all parts. Written ranges: Trumpet 1 to G; Trombone to F; Alto Sax to D. An optional flute part is included. If you liked this writer's Buffalo Wings, you'll love his Barbeque Sauce! Highly recommended! 10370675 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 47.00 Be CoolMike Tomaro. Be Cool is a funky rocker with an infectious groove, hip voicings and a strong melody! The bari sax and lower voices set the style and groove at around 132 bpm leading to the nicely voiced melody with muted trumpets along with the full band. The optional open solo section, with solo sheets included, provides plenty of space for your soloists to stretch out. The solo backgrounds build to a head that leads to a soft section. While maintaining the excitement, the melody returns played by the full ensemble that leads to a solid ending. You and your jazz band will be cool with this one! 10604640 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 H BirdlandJosef Zawinul/arr. Victor Lopez. Just listen to this chart and you know you have to have it as Victor Lopez brings the original Weather Report version to life for jazz ensembles. All the ingredients are here, plus solo space (written or improvised) for alto 1 and/or trumpet 2, nice chord voicings throughout, and the lead trumpet top note is only a written G on top of the staff. Very easy to assemble and perform, this will be a hit every time! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10277740 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 H BlackbirdLennon & McCartney/arr. Mike Tomaro. Perhaps one of the Beatles' lesser known tunes, Blackbird remains one of their most creative and memorable. Mike Tomaro's smooth setting uses a blend of light funk along with a brief samba section to create a truly outstanding effect. The theme is stated simply in the beginning by trumpet, followed by an array of orchestrational textures and harmonies. Highly recommended! 10098755 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 n Boogaloo for TwoDaryl McKenzie. With its well-rounded form, Boogaloo for Two is a fast funk chart that effectively combines the elements of funk and jazz. The full ensemble hits it right off the top then the trumpets carry the melody over nice progressions. The first solo is for guitar followed by a cool stop-time section which is followed by a solo from the baritone sax. By now things are really starting to cook as the chart builds and subsides to a semi-quiet ending. Perfect for any performance occasion! 10607160 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 57.00 Boogie On Reggae WomanStevie Wonder/ arr. Mike Tomaro. The heavy influence that Stevie Wonder had on funk and jazz is clearly evident in this hit from 1974. Made even funkier in this version for big band with a tempo slightly slower than the original, the authentic flavor still shines through. Written-out bass lines and piano voicings are included in this great arrangement! 10522916 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 n Brother MisterChristian McBride/arr. Mike Kamuf. A stop-time development section and a power shout chorus are but a few of the exciting features of this straight-eighth groove chart composed by Christian McBride. Set at a medium tempo, this hip tune includes written or improvised solos for alto 1, trumpet 2, tenor 1, and drums. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Very cool in a contemporary way! 10311431 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 n Buffalo WingsMike Carubia. This outstanding funk original is based on two chord changes, I & IV Dominant chords, making soloing a breeze. A short interlude, or bridge, provides a break from the two chords adding interest to the overall effect of the chart. With hints of Watermelon Man, this tune features unison melodies and hip harmonies making it extremely fun to play and hear! Tons of personality! Highly recommended! 10072056 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 47.00 n CaravanDuke Ellington/arr. Mike Tomaro. You know it as swing, but this is the hot version recorded by Chicago! Ellington's famous standard gets a fresh face-lift in this exciting arrangement by Mike Tomaro! 2354991 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 n ChameleonHerbie Hancock/arr. Chris Sharp. Herbie Hancock wrote this funky jazz standard many years ago, but it still remains a player and audience favorite with its hip bass line and hot melody. This modern take on this funk classic has plenty of room to get your groove on with the famous melody. There's also room for soloing over the friendly chord progression or breaking it down with some very hip ensemble sections. Don't miss the great passage where the rhythm section drops out and the horns go it alone. Nice chart on a great standard! 10280569 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 4 Cheep ShotKris Berg. Here's the chicken funk chart for 2017! This one grooves from top to bottom and you'll really dig the deep, funky groove played around 160 bpm. Written or improvised solo space is provided for trumpet and tenor, but you could add guitar if desired. The lead trumpet range is to written B-flat above the staff with an optional high C, and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Plus, it has a great bass part and a sweet drum backbeat. There's nothing cheap about this winner! 10756400 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 H The ChickenAlfred James Ellis/arr. Kris Berg. If you've got a strong bassist, this is your showstopper!
