Featuring a soulful and relaxed groove and the familiar riff-like melodies, this chart uses an ensemble of three saxes, trumpet and trombone alternating with punches from the entire ensemble. Suggested solos are included for alto and trumpet, and the shout chorus features occasional 3/4 measures thrown in for added spice. For additional solo options, scale/chord sheets are also included. Plus, there's a great development section, a stop-time interlude, and additional parts for augmented instrumentation options. Jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard has sadly passed on but his wonderful music lives on. This wonderful jazz standard is masterfully arranged and features a haunting melody with an alternating bossa and light funk groove. The solos are written for piano, trumpet and tenor sax with modest brass ranges and a sweet shout chorus. It's been play-tested with great success and is an excellent chart all around! Next, trumpet 2 has a written or improvised solo before the entire ensemble eloquently reintroduces the theme. Rosanna was a huge hit in the '80s from the group Toto, with a great hook that still resonates today! Everyone gets a chance at the melodic hook, and there's a very effective building of intensity to the melody. Great tune, nice chart! Southtown Hustle is a driving rock/fusion chart in a quasi- Herbie Hancock style. Additional features include well-placed drum fills and an effective interlude featuring the bassist. A fun and musical chart. This cookin' chart is tuneful, funky and is set in a half-time feel. A written or improvised solo is provided for alto saxophone with the accessible chord progression allowing the improviser to solo using the notes in a concert E-flat minor pentatonic scale (Eb, Gb, Ab, Bb, Db). Interesting material is well distributed throughout the various instrumental families, the parts are well articulated, the ranges are reasonable, and the rhythm section parts are notated with chords symbols provided.
