Battle of Doro Passage musically describes a real naval conflict that took place October 16, 1827 on the Aegean Sea. The opening "calm winds" hint at approaching danger, as each ship is introduced with its own powerful musical theme that rises, falls, and overlaps in conflict on the high seas.
