Away in a Manger—arr. Terry White. This arrangement is a beautiful and sensitive treatment of this superb Christmas classic. In a medium jazz waltz style, it begins with a mysterious alto 1 melody, then transitions to the full ensemble, followed by a written or ad lib tenor sax solo. Swinging slightly harder, the chart then modulates into the final ensemble shout section. The lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff and it's playable with optional expanded instrumentation. Sweet, tasteful, hip, yet reverent, this is perfect change of pace holiday programming.
Carol of the Bells—arr. Paul Clark. Take a familiar holiday classic, give it to a creative arranger, and you get a hard-driving rock chart that's filled with instrumental and dynamic contrasts. After an attention grabbing introduction, a few bars of the melody are played quietly in 3/4. Then it's straight-ahead rock in 4/4! The open solo section for any instrument has only two chords, and the chart works fine even if the solo section is omitted. The trumpets never leave the staff, and it's playable with optional limited instrumentation. It's the perfect "something different" for holiday concerts! 10311477 Jazz Ensemble ........................................ .48.00
The Christmas Spirit—arr. Mike Carubia & Carl Strommen. Holiday concert audiences are always thrilled by familiar carols. An optional flute part is included and the written ranges are: Trumpet 1 to G; Trombone to F; Alto Sax to D. 10311509 Jazz Ensemble ........................................ .47.00
Hark! The Herald Angels Swing!—arr. Paul Clark. Bring your trumpets out front and let them herald in the holiday season! This super chart begins with a fanfare that leads into a fun, swinging version of this familiar carol. It's easy to work up, and it's playable with optional limited instrumentations so it will sound fine with as few as 2 trumpets, 3 saxes, 2 trombones and 3 rhythm. After playing through the tune, the trombones, bass and bari sax get a fun riff going. Then the saxes and trumpets "trade twos" over it. This leads up to an effective and exciting key change with the trumpets leading the way to the end. This exceptional take on a holiday classic has no solos. While this chart is a trumpet section feature, they are never asked to play for too long without a break, and with the exception of two Gs, their range stays in the staff. 10311483 Jazz Ensemble ........................................ .48.00
Two Front Teeth—Don Gardner/arr. Paul Baker. You, your band and their audiences will enjoy this clever chart on this familiar holiday novelty tune. After the full ensemble rubato introduction, the medium tempo samba kicks in with altos and trumpets, then the melody is bounced around to all sections. After a Montuna interlude, there are 2nd trumpet written solos with only two chords to keep it accessible for developing players, a sax soli, a written 2nd trombone solo, then a big shout chorus and out to the fun finish. It's also playable with optional expanded instrumentation. Something different...a clever samba based on this holiday standard. 10303044 Jazz Ensemble ........................................ .44.00
