SUGGESTED GAMES FOR THE KICKOFF PARTY "All Clear" Freeze Dance Use the "All Clear" song for a dance party! Explain that when the music is heard, the kids should dance! When the music stops, everyone should FREEZE! Fire Drill The purpose of a fire drill is so everyone in a building is aware of how to exit to a safe place in the quickest, easiest, and safest way possible. Discuss the fire drill procedure for your church in the event of a fire. Do a walk-through to practice the plan. Make sure everyone can recognize the sound of the alarm and knows what to do when it sounds. Now conduct a real-time fire drill and assess the results at the end. Time the complete evacuation to make sure it occurs within a reasonable length of time. Encourage the students to discuss their fire escape plan at home with their families. Loaves and Fish Relay Divide the group into teams of 4-6 kids. Give each team a large serving spoon or cup. Line up each time at one end of the room behind a small bowl. Place a large basket at the other end of the room and fill it with fish-shaped crackers and pretzel sticks. At the signal, in relay fashion, one person from each team will run to the other side of the room to the large basket, fill up the spoon or cup with the crackers or pretzels, and run back to dump the contents in to his/her team's bowl. Play continues through all players on the team or until the large basket of crackers is empty. Ships and Sailors Play in a large open area. Designate one person to be the "captain" of the ship. As the captain calls out a series of commands, players will follow the commands. If anyone doesn't perform the command within a reasonable amount of time, they move to the outside wall to help the captain find players who are not following the commands. When the command "Captain's Coming" is heard, the players must stay frozen until the command "At Ease" is said. The captain can try to trick the players by giving other commands before saying "At Ease." Allow enough time for multiple volunteers to become the captain.
