CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS *Really, any of the roles may be played by a boy or a girl with only slight name and gender modifications in the script. The indications above show how we recorded them on the demonstration recording. Many roles could also be played by older youth or adults. (in order of appearance) LEAD ROLES (have the most lines, in the most scenes) SMITHY boy A farmhand on the farm; the narrator who helps set the stage for the musical. FAITH girl A girl who's been dealing with some troubles at home. She spends the summer at grandma and grandpa's farm, and we enter into her dream about chickens. NUGGET boy A chicken who appears in Faith's dream; he is happy to be outside the coop. SCRAMBLES girl A chicken who appears in Faith's dream; she is scared of everything. BUTTERCUP girl A chicken who appears in Faith's dream; along for the journey, she is Benedict's confidant. BOOKWORM boy Bookworm has devoured many books, and becomes a sort of guide along the journey. ROAD boy A help along the way, pointing our characters in the right direction. CAT girl A menacing cat that tries to bully the chickens. OWL boy A wise owl who helps guide our characters on their journey. GRANDMA girl Faith's grandma; she is kind, understanding, and encouraging. BENEDICT boy An egg that hasn't quite hatched; he is along for the journey, but just mumbles. MR. EMOJI boy A yellow smiley face emoji that accidentally appears in Faith's dream CHICKS boys/girls A group of preschoolers dressed as baby chicks.
