n Dat Dere—Bobby Timmons/arr. Erik Morales. A soulful tune with a catchy title and melody! Erik Morales captures composer Bobby Timmons' medium swing groove. At a moderate tempo, with a slightly mysterious intro, the saxes grab the melody and it builds from there. A written (or ad lib) alto solo is provided with a fat shout chorus. This is an outstanding chart in every respect! Highly recommended! 10277767 Jazz Ensemble .......... 48.00
n Go Tell It on the Mountain—arr. Alan Baylock. A creative and outstanding chart by Alan Baylock on the traditional spiritual. Beginning with claps and foot stomps, it builds throughout and features a written alto solo and a lead trumpet range to written B-flat above the staff. 4 Phat and Sassy—Paul Baker. Phat and Sassy opens with eight bars of Gene Krupa-style tom toms and places this chart solidly in the hard swinging big band genre of Benny Goodman and Lionel Hampton. The saxes charge in with the melody which is soon traded back and forth with the brass sections. Tenor sax, trumpet, and drum solos over accessible changes follow, leading to a trombone section riff that builds through the ensemble. The sax section then takes over for a swinging soli before returning to a shout chorus and ending. This chart is a real flag-waver that teaches the fundamentals of the swing style along with an historical perspective. A super chart that is highly recommended! 10312892 Jazz Ensemble .......... 45.00
H Sing, Sing, Sing—transcribed by Mike Lewis. Here it is...perhaps the most recognizable swing tune of all time! This incredible transcription is as close as you're going to come to the original (which included clarinet and less than a full compliment of brass). This chart is scored for a standard 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm, but aside from that, it is the original as played by Benny Goodman. Every lick is there, including all the Gene Krupa drum breaks! This chart is a must for every big band's library! 2411486 Jazz Ensemble .......... 55.00
