Original Concert Works
4 Harvest Moon—Larry Clark. Here is an exciting piece that uses a light spiccato style and tuneful melody to depict, in sound, the harvest moon. The spiccato accompaniment sets the mood as the main theme is stated in the first violins. The melody builds to the B section where it is treated to a more lush accompanying harmony. Thick open fifths in the lower strings provide a strong sense of tension that is finally released by a climactic return of the main theme in a lush and majestic treatment. Great writing for young string players! 10308804 String Orchestra ...... E 47.00
l Heart of Fire—Lauren Bernofsky. Packed full of rhythmic charge and excitement with scalar passages and beautiful solo lines for contrast. A cello solo portion really makes this original sing. 10307183 String Orchestra .....ME 55.00
4 Hyperdrive—Ralph Ford. The term hyperdrive refers to a device which allows a vehicle in space to travel faster than the speed of light. 4 Koneko—Keiko Yamada. Koneko uses a simple pentatonic tune to depict the innocent and playful nature of a little kitten. The piece uses very limited musical and technical material for the players. The pentatonic tune begins with the first violins only, and then the tutti orchestra. A secondary theme is added with the celli taking the lead line. Different variations of the main tune are developed, and the lower strings get a chance with some important melodic material. A spectacular piece for beginners! 10308777 String Orchestra ... 4 Legacy—Sean O'Loughlin. This piece creates a lasting legacy by the use of a dramatic tone that conjures up legendary stories from days gone by. The dramatic, aggressive tone is stated immediately and is developed through use of articulation variations and dynamics contrasts. A measure of silence creates much anticipation for the return of the main melody and a dramatic ending. A very solid work for young players! 10308794 String Orchestra ...... E 47.00
n March of the Shadows—Brian Balmages. A dark and spooky way to introduce young players to Bb and Eb. Smart and edgy with unexpected harmonic and rhythmic twists, program this one for fall concerts for spine-tingling encores! 10277874 String Orchestra ...... E 45.00

4 Orion and the Scorpion—Soon Hee Newbold. Tension sets in with the opening cello solo, swathed in mysticism and an omen for the adventure to come. Ethereal harmonic colors of the night sky where Orion was imprisoned give way to a high energy, 6/8 main theme, depicting the conqueror's epic journeys that made him a legend. This one packs lots of cinematic thrill for performers and audiences to enjoy! 10307189 String Orchestra .....MA 65.00

4 A Pioneer's Tale—Alan Lee Silva. The Americana flavor of A Pioneer's Tale captures the spirit of past adventures in U.S. history as explorers pushed out West to discover new frontiers. The folk song-like melody stated by the 1st violins depict a long pioneer as he sets out on his journey. Quickly joined by other adventurers, violin 2 and viola create a harmonic outline with open-string double-stops. The ensemble soars with energy as the melody is heard over punctuated figures depicting the new excitement in the West. A final vigorous and fiddle-like phrase in the high strings over open fifths in the low strings concludes the piece with intensity. This one is very spirited! 10308798 String Orchestra ...... E 47.00
