CHARACTERS Ashpenaz – Chief of Staff for King Nebuchadnezzar, a clever servant, with a sense of humor and a born storyteller Narrator 1 Narrator 2 King – Vain and pompous; and ignorant without being aware of it Shadrach – Smooth and accomplished, a diplomat Meshach – Strong and upright, a soldier Abednego – Smart and studious, an intellectual—the oldest and perhaps wisest of the three Chorus – who take on multiple roles listed below: Babylonians 1-6 Babylonian Guards Royal Herald VIP's, including Homecoming Queen, Prom Date, Dogcatcher, and Dogs Counselors 1-13 – Advisors to the King who are jealous of our heroes Angel in the Furnace (non speaking) Most roles can be played by either male or female performers. The Narrators can double as Chorus members. They adopt their Narrator roles simply by stepping up to their positions at the music stands on stage right and stage left. In the score, unless otherwise indicated, "BABYLONIANS" includes the KING and ASHPENAZ.
