From Handel's "Messiah"
Glory to God
Glory to God in the highest Heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests. (Luke 2:14 NIV)
At last, day awakens and centuries of silence are shattered in a single moment.
At the King's command, angels hasten to earth converging outside a small town in the Judean
hills.
Without warning the entire valley is permeated with sound! Shepherds awaken to
torches of light in the sky above them.
God is descending—like fire! One thing they know, the Eternal can hurl His lightning where
ever He pleases and they are paralyzed with fear!
But then, they hear a voice. "A Savior!" it says and "Do not be afraid!"
They look at each other—amazed. This was good news! Could they have heard correctly? The
Messiah is born tonight? And God is pleased?
Yes! God is pleased!
And suddenly, human hope stirs again!
