Seekers of the Light is designed to be an impactful experience for your choir,
congregation and community. The cantata itself can be the culmination of a
transformational choir and congregational journey in which all participants seek the
Light of Christ anew. The optional Devotional Guide assists in this process, and will
also help the director and singers internalize the message of the work.
Lloyd Larson and Mark Hayes are at their finest with the music presented in these
pages. From joyful and triumphant to tender and touching, this work offers a mixture
of classic Christmas moments with exciting new creations. Pamela Stewart's
narration and original lyrics are artfully crafted. Phillip Keveren's orchestrations are
exquisite while remaining practical. By design, this cantata is also easily learned and
prepared in order for possible memorization. But at the very least, its 30-minute
length and singable vocal scoring will allow more time for the devotional aspect of
the work. For those churches seeking a longer presentation, an expanded version
with carols is offered in the Performance Notes (page 3). Optional PowerPoint slides
are available to enhance the visual component of the work. Optional drama (also
easily rehearsed and performed with a limited number of actors) adds a deeper
dimension to the work in an age when visual engagement is often paramount.
In whatever manner you choose to present Seekers of the Light, we pray all who
experience the work will be inspired, moved and transformed anew by the true Light
of the World.
