There are solos for trumpet and baritone sax in this outstanding chart that will appeal to your audiences and ensemble. Get out the saddle oxfords, bobby socks and pleated skirts for this one! 2481643 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Boplicity—Davis & Evans/arr. Mike Tomaro. The landmark album by Miles Davis, Birth Of The Cool, introduced the unique sound of the nonet instrumentation. Without straying from the intent of the music, and working directly with the original score, Mike Tomaro has adapted this tune from the album for standard instrumentation, making it accessible to today's jazz ensembles. The style is laid-back swing, and it includes solos for baritone sax, trumpet and piano, as in the original version. A jazz standard for your library! 2701398 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 4 Bye Bye Blackbird—Ray Henderson/arr. Rich Sigler. This swinging chart is a great vehicle for a tenor sax soloist with jazz band. The solo part ranges from written melody to a written jazz solo, all very accessible, and it especially swings when the tenor soloist trades fours with the ensemble. The ensemble and soloist are equally featured throughout. The lead trumpet range is to written G top of staff and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentation. A great jazz standard for developing jazz groups! 10997194 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00 Canal Street Commotion—Mike Carubia. This chart features the sound of a New Orleans funeral band historically known as the "Second Line" behind the family and casket. It's a time for celebration coming after the initial mourning period. It's lots of fun to play in the style of a funky, marching, dixieland band. The harmonic form is the blues and there is room made for soloing both inside the ensemble and for featured soloists. The saxophone section features soprano lead and optional flute and tuba parts are included. A change-of-pace highlight with attitude! 10518317 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00 Catwalk—Andrew Neu. Inspired by the music of Henry Mancini and the spy movies of the 1960s, Catwalk is a cool jazz, minor swing tune featuring alto saxophone, trumpet and guitar on the melody at first, then written or improvised solos for alto sax and trumpet. Dynamic contrasts provide a potent vehicle for the individual sections and the full ensemble. Not your typical swing chart, this is a super choice as a change-of-pace chart! 10879769 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 l Come Blow Your Horn (Edited Version)— Jimmy Van Heusen/arr. Al Cohn. Originally recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Big Band on their album Come Blow Your Horn, this edited version is scored for standard big band instrumentation to include five saxes, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass and drums. Also available in the pro version with the original instrumentation, it features marvelous tutti passages, and exciting shouts and hits along with solo space for trumpet to let trumpet players get their Maynard on! 11100469 Jazz Ensemble (Edited Version) . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 H Count Bubba—Gordon Goodwin/arr. Paul Murtha. Paul Murtha has adapted this monster chart from Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band to an easier level while maintaining all the intensity and drive of the original. The trombones take the lead at the top followed by the trumpets then saxes, until finally the entire ensemble cuts loose. It includes suggested or improvised solos for trumpet and alto saxophone. Exceptional sounds for developing players! Highly recommended! 10052541 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 H Dat Dere—Bobby Timmons/arr. Erik Morales. A soulful tune with a catchy title and melody! Erik Morales captures composer Bobby Timmons' medium swing groove. At a moderate tempo, with a slightly mysterious intro, the saxes grab the melody and it builds from there. A written (or ad lib) alto solo is provided with a fat shout chorus. This is an outstanding chart in every respect! Highly recommended! 10277767 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 The Defibrillator—Adrien Re. Nothing makes you get into a groove like a shuffle and this one has a fierce back-beat that will hook you right at the top! A very hip melody line, written-out solos for tenor sax and 1st trombone, lead trumpet range to written A above the staff and a power-house shout chorus are but a few of the features. A hot bari sax part, too! This is nothing but fun to play! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10093163 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Delta Queen—Greg Moody. This rollicking original New Orleans-style chart will take you right to Bourbon Street for Mardi Gras! It's an exciting second-line journey in a familiar swing/ rock style that will have audiences demanding an encore. There are suggested solos included for alto sax 1, tenor sax 1 and trumpet 2 along with chord changes for improvisation. The ranges and rhythmic demands are moderate for this level. Make sure to check this one out! 10910608 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Don't Get Around Much Anymore (Little Big Band)—Duke Ellington/arr. Mark Taylor. True to the original medium-tempo swing style, this creative chart in the Little Big Band format features satisfying full-ensemble scoring with suggested or improvised solos for tenor sax and trumpet. Scored for three saxes, two trumpets, one trombone and four rhythm, with optional parts for alto sax, tenor sax and trombone, this is great for additional performance and rehearsal opportunities for key players. Highly recommended! 10909024 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band). . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 Doodlin' (Little Big Band)—Horace Silver/arr. Chuck Israels. Horace Silver created a blues with a perfectly consistent character and structured the accompaniments and his piano solo in perfect balance. Orchestrating the piano parts from the original recording is a fairly straightforward process. Some thought goes into choosing which instruments best express the music and there's some attention paid to contrasting timbres and textures, but so much of the music already exists in Silver's piano playing, both in his solos and in his accompaniments, that the piece is already there without additional writing. It's a perfect framework that will produce a telling performance. Small Band: ATB Saxes, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drums. 10757434 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band). . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 l East to Wes—Dave Mills. This laid-back, down- home swing chart in 6/4 time is a tribute to the great Wes Montgomery. Instead of a solo section, it features a very cool soli by the entire sax section. In order, it features the saxes, then brass, then saxes again, then brass again and the full ensemble to take it out. This is a great chart to stretch musicians past the standard 4/4 blues tunes into a deeper level of swing. Optional parts for flute, clarinet and horn in F are included for expanded instrumentation. 11000474 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 4 Ernie's Romp—BIll Sears/arr. Mark Taylor. Here's a great-sounding chart for featuring a tenor sax and guitar duet, or just tenor sax. Utilizing a medium shuffle groove, this smooth chart features a dialog between a small group and the full ensemble. The solo section (trumpet, then tenor sax) alternates between a half-time groove and straight-ahead swing. Then it's topped off with a powerful shout chorus for the full band! 11105122 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Fables of Faubus—Charles Mingus/arr. Sy Johnson. Here's the classic Mingus chart in a version from the Simply Mingus series that exudes a sense of anger and sarcasm and definitely projects an edginess. The baritone sax and bass trombone will have fun with the opening, and there's plenty for the rest of the band to get excited about in this medium swing romp. Includes suggested solos and optional parts for flute, clarinet and French horn. 10033671 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Family Guy Theme—Walter Murphy/arr. Roger Holmes. From the brash, irreverent and wildly popular television series Family Guy, comes this supercharged, big band style theme that swings hard! The tempo is medium, the style is swing and it features an alto sax solo and hot ensemble hits! 2482160 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Filthy McNasty—Horace Silver/arr. John LaBarbera. You'll like this one! It's a riff-style shuffle featuring a head for alto, trumpet and trombone that goes into a rompin' Bb blues. 2122463 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Finishing Brushes—Rob Vuono, Jr. Packed with style and verve to spare, Finishing Brushes shows off your drummer's deft brushwork while engaging in splendid dialogue with the ensemble. The cool swing never ceases as the chart grooves along, offering plenty of room for your drummer to fill and kick, leading to a dynamic and electrifying shout chorus that really revs into full gear! The ranges are modest and all the suggested drum solo fills are notated to ensure success. Great melodic lines, attractive changes, and masterful scoring make this the perfect selection for both concert and contest! It's a brilliant showcase for your drummer! 10757050 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Fly Me to the Moon—Bart Howard/arr. Allen Gray. Oh, jazz standards just don't get any better than Bart Howard's Fly Me to the Moon! This chart pays homage to the great Count Basie band and their iconic version with Frank Sinatra. With a subtle swingin' opening, this chart builds into a big tutti section before there's room for improvised solos. Finally, the band enters again to swing it hard all the way to the end. This one's got to be in your jazz library. Highly recommended! 10752071 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .65.00 4 Foundation Issues—Paul Baker. This hard- swinging 12-bar blues features acoustic bass in a Thad Jones-inspired setting. It cooks right along and the ensemble provides solid support for the bass soloist. At a tempo of 140 bpm, this chart provides a very accessible opportunity for the unsung hero of the rhythm section to shine. Soprano sax leads the sax section. A unique and very cool trombone section plus bass soli is wrapped between solos for trumpet, soprano sax and bass before heading into the shout chorus. Brass ranges: trumpet to written high C and trombone to G-flat. Bass features are hard to find, and this one is outstanding! 10999402 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 4 Gather 'Round—Rob Vuono, Jr. Gather 'Round is a happy, joyous, medium-tempo gospel swinger with a sunny disposition. An animated full-ensemble introduction leads the way to the down-home melody, at first presented by trumpet and alto over a stop-time rhythm section. The entire sax section takes the melody next, while the brass offer uplifting commentary by way of stop-time chords. Plunger-muted trumpet is featured at the solo section. The solo section can be repeated as desired to feature additional solos; suggested solos are included for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, and trombone. Some deft linear writing follows the solos, providing exciting dialog throughout the ensemble and leading to an effective pyramid that leaps into a big shout chorus. Don't miss the clever tag at the ending plagal cadence offering a place for the plunger-muted trumpet to shine above the final chord. This chart is sure to bring a smile, and it's highly recommended! 11002321 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Great Minds Swing Alike—Erik Sherburne. Jazz bands can't swing if they aren't swinging together, and Great Minds Swing Alike is just the chart to prove it! It swings hard right off the top with a sax soli, then a trumpet soli as the melody is passed through the band while the rhythm section digs in with a steady groove. The changes are simple allowing for an open solo section and the brass ranges are modest. Also included is a big time shout chorus and a cool ending. It's a great opener to get the crowd in the mood or a super closer to leave them wanting more! 10882826 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 H Haitian Fight Song—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy. Featuring a dark intensity and a powerful unison riff figure in minor, this medium swing chart is a great showcase for your bass player as well as the trombone section. The harmonic structure is quite simple, but the depth of the arrangement comes from the thematic layers that are continually added throughout. Written solo (or soli) sections are included for the trombones and trumpets as well as notated piano voicings and bass lines. The brass ranges are moderate and optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and F horn. Here is an exciting Mingus gem for your band! Highly recommended! 10005180 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Hey Pachuco!—arr. Shane Porter. Your students and audiences will love this burning swing tune made famous by Royal Crown Revue. The groove is set up with a drum solo laying down a Sing, Sing, Sing Krupa feel before the band enters. A trumpet with plunger solo leads into a sax soli section. Next, the trumpet section is featured on a soli section before a half-time feel gives the brass a chance to shine. Returning to the original groove, a written solo for tenor sax heightens the excitement. Finally, there's an open drum solo before the band enters and takes it on home. Pure excitement! 10050989 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 4 Honeysuckle Rose—Thomas "Fats" Waller/arr. Paul Baker. Here's a swingin' jazz classic played around 156 bpm with written suggested solos provided for alto sax 1 and trumpet 2 with cues for piano and trumpet 1. The sax soli, drum fills, a few familiar quotes, along with well-notated rhythm section parts all come together to create a fine chart that will make developing groups shine. A nice swing chart done well! 10997198 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00 STATE & FESTIVAL LISTS Shop lists from all 50 states. jwpepper.com/festivallists
