From the Trombone Shorty CD Backatown, this tune features the powerful underlying pulse of a New Orleans second line feel along with elements of contemporary rock. There's written or improvised solo space for trumpet. In this exciting chart, the ensemble alternately screams with the full band riffs, then settles into a simmering rhythmic groove. Also included are written bass lines and piano voicings. A real treat to perform and hear! 10490297 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 I Left My Heart in San Francisco—arr. Quincy Jones. Quincy Jones wrote some incredible arrangements on very popular tunes for the Count Basie Orchestra. As recorded on This Time By Basie, Quincy's arrangement of I Left My Heart in San Francisco features great interplay between the ensemble playing the melody, and the piano with written solo fills. With a tempo around 108 bpm, and a relaxed swing feel, there's also short solo space for tenor saxophone, and the ranges are very moderate. This chart is playable by a lot of bands. It's a true classic! Highly recommended! 10368506 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 I Mean You—Monk & Hawkins/arr. Mike Tomaro. Written by Thelonious Monk and Coleman Hawkins, this chart features a freewheeling, New Orleans-style street beat alternating with straight-ahead swing. Mike Tomaro's setting is unique and creative on this Monk classic. Trumpet and tenor share the melody, and solo space is included for trombone and piano with suggested solos included. Highly recommended! 10033678 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 4 If I Were a Bell—Frank Loesser/arr. Sammy Nestico. Although composed by Frank Loesser for the musical "Guys and Dolls," this tune became a jazz standard largely thanks to the recording by Miles Davis. Sammy Nestico shows that he's still the master of big band arranging with this sparkling version in a medium swing style. Impeccably scored utilizing every section of the band, solo space is provided for tenor saxophone and piano, and a beautifully crafted full ensemble chorus finishes it out. 11100133 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 H In the Mood—Joe Garland. This Glenn Miller classic is a must for every jazz band library! It's a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! 2090959 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Indiana (Back Home Again in Indiana)—arr. Greg Yasinitsky. Greg Yasinitsky has made this great jazz classic into an up-tempo, flag-wavin' swinger. This excellent chart features terrific sax solis, a written or ad lib tenor solo, some stop- time interludes, and a rousing shout chorus. A fine opener or closer, it also includes optional parts for expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10302793 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) —Duke Ellington/arr. Ralph Ford. You may think this very clever chart is all swing, but it begins as Latin then alternates with a swing feel. The tempo is bright at around 190-200 bpm with suggested solos for trumpet and tenor sax, a few piano montunos, and a big shout chorus leading to a huge ending closing this fine chart appropriately. Additional wind parts and a vibes part are included for optional expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10756380 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00 It's Oh, So Nice—Sammy Nestico. As recorded on the great Basie-Straight Ahead album of 1968 by Count Basie, this swing outing features solid section and full ensemble writing, brass buckets, sax scoops, drum fills, and piano in the solo role. The tempo is not taxing with the quarter equaling 120; however, paying careful attention to dynamics will be especially important. The rhythm section parts are partially notated with chords cued. 2477338 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Just When I'm Thinkin' 'Bout You—Rob Vuono, Jr. Beautifully written in a slow swing style, this impressive swing ballad is an excellent showcase for your lead trombone player. Rob keeps the ranges modest throughout, yet achieves a most sophisticated sound by way of a well-crafted melody, paired with a distinctive set of chord changes and well-written ensembles. The solo is accessible and melodic, plus there is terrific ensemble writing for the full ensemble. The rhythm section parts are fully notated along with chord changes to ensure success. Sure to be a favorite in any book, this chart has the timeless feel of a true standard. Highly recommended! 10050263 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 l Keepin' It Hot—Bob Curnow. Keepin' It Hot is the big brother to Keepin' It Cool and is the same basic chart, but is meant for slightly more advanced ensembles that are seeking more of a challenge with extended brass ranges. As in Keepin' It Cool, the solo space is for alto sax, piano and drums. This one is a great companion to keep in your back pocket as your band continues to grow! 10999304 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 Knuckleball Blues—Paul Baker. This is a medium swing "blues with a bridge" chart that plays off the unusual nature of a knuckleball's trajectory and flight characteristics. Lots of fun "wobbles" and misdirection bring this hard-swinging chart home in the melody and orchestration. Solo space is provided for tenor sax and trumpet with plenty of backgrounds as well. The trumpet range is to written High C above the staff. A full-bodied shout chorus follows the solos before returning to the bridge and closing tag. Swings hard! 10882937 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 4 Lady Bird (Little Big Band)—Tadd Dameron/ arr. Mike Tomaro. Written by bebop composer Tadd Dameron as a tribute to Billy Holiday, this jazz standard belongs in every jazz musician's repertoire. With a short 16-bar form this tune is a great introduction into the harmonic language of bebop. Mike Tomaro's setting in the little big band format also includes some added bebop inspired lines. It's flexibly scored for six horns and rhythm section with optional parts provided. Nice! 11105226 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band). . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 Late in the Quarter—Mike Dana. Here's a funky, but swinging New Orleans street beat feature for a front line feature of trumpet, tenor, and trombone. A great groove, catchy call-and-response and swinging ensemble sections, reasonable brass ranges, and ample solo space, with suggested solos included, come together to make a unique and exciting work for developing jazz bands. The clever ending is as if the band has passed by and fades down the street, all the while continuing on their funky, swinging journey! 10604654 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 l Lemon Twist—Bobby Troup/arr. Bill Holman. Bill Holman arranged this Bobby Troup gem for the Charlie Barnet Big Band. It's a great, old school swinger complete with solo space for alto saxophone and trumpet. Unison melody lines are distributed throughout the sections of the band with a huge "twist" of brass shouts, pops and kicks that make for a thrilling addition to any performance. 10999316 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Midnight Voyage—Joey Calderazzo/arr. Alan Baylock. Here is an outstanding tenor sax feature chart that was composed by pianist Joey Calderazzo, recorded by the late, great Michael Brecker and arranged by Alan Baylock. A haunting medium swing groove- tenor sax as the melody and the solo space, and lead trumpet range is to written high C. A beautiful tune and superb chart on this hard-swinging feature! 10068300 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 H Moanin'—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy. Here's a playable yet very effective arrangement of this signature Mingus composition. The familiar baritone sax riff is handled by three saxes, and there is also a substantial soli for the entire saxophone section. Optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and French horn. A terrific introduction to the genius of Mingus! 10041748 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Moon River—Henry Mancini/arr. Billy Byers. As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time by Basie, Billy Byers arranged a wonderful, easy-swinging masterpiece. Cleverly, he set this Mancini classic in 4/4 to accommodate the Basie band's iconic style. This is a terrific big band chart that belongs in every library right alongside I Can't Stop Loving You, Nice 'n Easy and I Left My Heart in San Francisco. There's space for a trumpet solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most bands. This is oh, so nice and highly recommended! 10530081 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Moten Swing—Buster & Benny Moten/arr. Ernie Wilkins. There have been a lot of published charts on this great Ernie Wilkins arrangement, but this is the original version as played and recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra. Moten Swing is possibly the most played piece of music by the Basie band and has been recorded countless times, making it a must-have for any band's library as it exemplifies wonderful roaring ensemble passages with soft, soft sections which will make your band sparkle. This new Finale edition includes a transcribed piano solo throughout, detailed rhythm section parts which are written except during the solos, and clearer, cleaner, more complete parts. Additionally, there is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet and piano. 2387306 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 Naima—John Coltrane/arr. Craig Skeffington. One of Coltrane's favorites and played by jazz musicians everywhere, this sweet bossa chart is magical. It opens with alto 1 on the written melody, then the sax section, followed by the brass taking the bridge. Features include a very nice, written tenor solo and lead trumpet range to written B-flat above the staff. Perfect for any jazz performance, you'll be delighted with Naima! Highly recommended! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10093179 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Nice 'n' Easy—arr. Quincy Jones. As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time By Basie, this Quincy Jones chart is a laid-back, swingin' masterpiece. It's a wonderful, classic big band chart that belongs in every library right along side I Can't Stop Lovin' You and I Left My Heart in San Francisco. There is space for a trumpet solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most bands. You can't go wrong with this exceptional chart on Nice 'n' Easy! 10455874 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 l O Canada—Calixa Lavallee/arr. Neil Yorke-Slader. This chart is a refreshing and imaginative version of Canada's national anthem. It exudes a nice, relaxed medium-tempo swing style. Practical and inspired orchestration results in all sections having an opportunity to play the melody. There's also a creative transition into and out of a 3/4 section that is truly effortless. Two scores and optional supplemental parts are provided for flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, horn in F, and tuba. An optional short tenor saxophone solo section is included. The written brass ranges are G5 for trumpet and F4 for trombone, and the rhythm section parts are fully notated. It's the Canadian national anthem and a very nice swing chart! 10991685 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 On Green Dolphin Street—Bronislau Kaper/ arr. Dave Wolpe. Only arranger Dave Wolpe can make On Green Dolphin Street the ideal address! A combination of swing and Latin feel, suggested solos for alto 1 and tenor 1, a lead trumpet range to written A above the staff, a tasty sax soli and a hot shout chorus make this an impressive chart. Optional parts are included for flute, horn in F, baritone horn/tenor sax and tuba. It's a superb chart you will enjoy for years to come. Highly recommended! 10049712 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 One for Daddy-O—Nat Adderley/arr. Mike Tomaro. This minor blues was written by Nat Adderley for Chicago DJ, Holmes "Daddy-O" Daylie and was first heard on Cannonball Adderley's seminal album, "Somethin' Else." This well- crafted arrangement swings just like the original, and includes a flexible solo section for any soloist. Written-out bass lines and piano voicings are included as well as chord/scale sheets in all keys. Highly recommended! 10775162 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 4 One for the Maestro—Pete McGuinness. One for the Maestro is a relaxed swinger in the style of the great Count Basie/Sammy Nestico charts. In addition to the great McGuinness ensemble writing, written or improvised solo space is included for alto sax 1 and trombone 1 with a bass and drums feature between the solos. After the solo section, there's a highly effective full band section that begins quietly and builds to a tasteful rubato ending. A great chart for concert or festival programs! 10985477 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 One O'Clock Jump—Count Basie/arr. Jeff Hest. This is the original Count Basie chart, recreated by Jeff Hest. Meticulously notated with Basie's simple but timeless piano solo, transcribed solos for first and second tenors, trombone, trumpet and bass, and the mother of all Basie swinging shout choruses, this is a classic that deserves a place in every jazz ensemble's repertoire! Highly recommended! 2701974 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 Out Back of the Barn—Gerry Mulligan/arr. Mark Taylor. What better instrument to feature on a bluesy "bump and grind" swinger like this than baritone sax? Written in a medium slow 12/8 feel, this chart will make your entire band sound great, plus allow an often neglected player to really shine. Suggested solo and scale/chord sheet provided. 10188517 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 H Out of the Doghouse—Erik Morales. Arranger/ composer Erik Morales delivers! This outstanding shuffle chart sounds like a big old freight train coming down the tracks, and it just builds and builds! There's a wonderful section after the optional solos that features a powerful sax soli without the rhythm section, and there are great breaks for piano and drums throughout. There are also some independent bari sax lines and optional written solos for alto, tenor and guitar. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff and there's an optional ending with lead trumpet notes up to C. This is a hot chart! Our highest recommendation! Arranger Victor Lopez has masterfully intertwined a mambo and a swing feel in this great Juan Tizol jazz classic. Featuring a fully notated tenor sax solo, lead trumpet range to written A, a brief sax soli and lots of excitement throughout, this chart is pure fun to hear and play! Don't be "lost", play Perdido!
