Its three central symbols—the gate, the woods, and the Star are explored but instead of explaining, an exquisite invitation is issued to all who pass through this open gate, seeking that which can only be found "on the other side of fear, of hopelessness." 11195991 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 3.50 Gloria (from "The World Beloved: A Blue- grass Mass" Second Edition)—Carol Barnett. Now in a second edition, this unique blend of bluegrass instrumentation and the familiar text of Gloria lends a new - even fun - perspective to the Mass tradition. Newcomers to either the classical or bluegrass genres will soon find barriers broken down and pathways into a new kind of music. 10044772 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.50 D Gloria—Rollo Dilworth. With a fun gospel texture, this work sets the Latin text with a bluesy groove. A marvelous piano accompaniment provides support for rhythmic choral parts which are written with musically satisfying yet achievable harmonies. Impressive! 11204342 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.10 Great Flowing River—James Eakin. The lyrics for this song were written in response to the tragic and sudden death of a loved one and capture the spirit of the loss as "the great flowing river of love." Featuring a soloist and accompanied by piano, violin, and cello, the lovely flowing vocal lines and stirring harmonic motion illustrate the joy and love found in memories of life together. 11204344 SATB divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A beautiful glimpse into the moment that poet Charles Anthony Silvestri knew that he fell in love with his wife, Julie, this plaintive piece expresses joy tinged with sadness. This is the third movement of "The Sacred Veil," a twelve-movement work written with Silvestri that chronicles his journey through life, love, cancer, and ultimately, the death of his wife. 11196197 SATB divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.75 t Hope Is the Thing with Feathers—Christopher Tin. Emily Dickinson's poem on the fragility of nature, as well as our own hand in its destruction, finds an elegiac tone in this deeply melodic original work. 11202993 SSATBB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.15 Lt How Sweet the Sound—Kyle Pederson. This work has the ethos of a spiritual, with the text and a few riffs inspired by Amazing Grace. The choir, considering the power of grace in song, affirms that no trouble, no shame, no valley is too deep for the healing gift and power of soul-freeing grace. The music has a driving quality, with the choir occasionally backing up the soloist with humming, quick commentary, or a sustained neutral syllable. 11199452 SATB A Cappella Version . . . . 2.80 11199453 SATB Piano Accompaniment Version . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.80 L I Carry Your Heart With Me—Jonathan Reid. M 2.85 Lt I Celebrate Myself—Michael John Trotta. This unaccompanied piece contrasts a simple unison motif with quick ostinato in the lower voices. The homophonic refrain clearly declaims, "All forces have been steadily employed to complete and delight me." After building to a high point with a soaring descant for soprano, the work recedes in intensity with a harmonic restatement of the opening motif. May be performed as part of a collection of four Whitman settings by the composer. 11197377 SSATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.80 t I Give You Peace—Dominick DiOrio. With a text adapted from the Bible, the composer has crafted a universal statement of peace. The lovely harmonic moments in the choral writing establish a beautiful foundation for the soaring oboe obbligato. The piece ends with a hushed, reverent pianissimo. 11204449 SATB divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.50 t I Sing Because—Christopher Rust. Inspired to write a piece that could be performed virtually by his choir during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rust's a cappella work combines an accessible harmonic texture with lyrics that express the reason why we sing. Appropriate at any time, it is especially designed for virtual choir performances. 11218539 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.25 t I Wanna Be Your Valentine—Brian Cook. Looking for a bright new "singing Valentine"? This is a flirty, delightful piece for a cappella voices - a perfect choral alternative to flowers and candy! 11202003 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.20 L I Will Sing—Michael Engelhardt. "What will I do with the portion given to me? I will sing." This fantastic work, written in a gospel style with an ecumenical text that challenges each of us to make the most of the lives we've been given, is a perfect piece for any setting, and makes a great closer! 11195665 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.65 If I Can Help Somebody—Alma Bazel Androzzo/ arr. Andre Thomas. This gospel-infused, blues- influenced arrangement of the famous work by Alma Bazel Androzzo was written in honor of Dr. Anton Armstrong. A solo voice drives the work throughout, with the choir playing a significant role as well. The words speak of reaching out - helping each other, caring for each other, loving each other. 11317120 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.50 If You Want to Hold My Hand—Kyle Pederson. This piece explores the simple but incredibly powerful act of holding someone's hand - and the text and pop feel will resonate with singers and audiences alike. It can be performed with piano, guitar, or both. Conceived as part of a suite, it is an excellent companion piece to Hands are Knockin' (#10981924), both thematically and harmonically. 11199829 SATB guitar and/or piano accompaniment . . . . ME 2.15 Joy (from "The Song Maker")—Thomas Juneau. Taken from a three-song set by Thomas Juneau, The Song Maker, this exuberant work captures the euphoria one feels at the joy of being loved. A rhythmic yet unhurried piano accompaniment enhances beautiful and soaring vocal lines. 11200577 SA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.55 t Jubilate Deo—Manolo Da Rold. Set for either a cappella mixed or treble voices, this work is exhilarating and powerful with a rhythmic drive that is most captivating for both singers and audience. 11202015 SSAA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.00 te Lead with Love—Melanie DeMore. Lead With Love was written in answer to a call for connection in troubled times. It is about persistence, community, and moving ahead. "One foot in front of the other" is a metaphor for determination and forward motion. The composer speaks of "love warriors" like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, and Ghandhi—all who started their movements out of the love of their people not out of the hatred of someone else. 11317834 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.25 Lie Light, Dear Heart—Kenneth Lampl & Kirsten Lampl. "Warm summer sun, shine kindly here..." These stunning words by Mark Twain have been set here in a highly melodic and memorable work. This setting offers both homophonic choral writing and counterpoint, providing many excellent teaching opportunities. This will be a lovely work for any program, but will be particularly good for memorials and remembrances. 11200588 SSAA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
