24 STORYTELLER 3: Once Noah and his family and all the animals were safely on the ark, God reached down and shut them in. STORYTELLER 4: Remember that—the next time a door closes in your life, it's probably for your own safety. STORYTELLER 3: And just about then, it started to rain. STORYTELLER 4: This is where we need some help from the audience. Would all of you please watch the stage and copy whatever the actors are doing? (The instructions that follow require five groups of RAIN LEADERS, with one or more CAST MEMBERS in each group. RAIN LEADERS in GROUP 1 move downstage and begin to tap one finger on a palm. When the audience and the rest of the CAST pick up the gesture, GROUP 1 moves upstage as GROUP 2 moves downstage, rubbing their palms together to make a light swishing sound. When the audience and the rest of the CAST pick it up, GROUP 2 moves back upstage as GROUP 3 moves downstage and leads the audience in tapping three fingers on one hand against the palm of the other hand. When the audience and the rest of the CAST copy the gesture, GROUP 3 moves back upstage as RAIN GROUP 4 moves downstage and leads the audience in clapping. When the audience and the rest of the CAST are clapping, GROUP 4 moves upstage as GROUP 5 moves downstage and leads the audience in slapping their thighs and drumming the floor with their feet. When the entire audience and CAST are slapping their thighs and drumming their feet, STORYTELLER 4 speaks.) STORYTELLER 4: (shouting over the storm) It rained for forty days and forty nights. STORYTELLER 3: (shouting over the storm) But we don't have that long—so let's jump ahead. (The RAIN GROUPS reverse their pattern of movement and lead the audience in making the rain die down, i.e. GROUP 4 leads clapping, followed by GROUP 3 leading three-finger tapping, followed by GROUP 2 leading palm rubbing, followed by GROUP 1 leading one finger tapping, followed by silence. At any point in the process of creating the rain sounds, some CAST MEMBERS can hold out their palms and look up, reacting as though they feel rain falling.) STORYTELLER 4: Now most people know about the forty days and nights of rain. STORYTELLER 3: But what you may not know is that was just the beginning. STORYTELLER 4: The Bible says, "the waters covered the earth for one hundred and fifty days." ALL: (groan) STORYTELLER 3: Yeah, things got tough. For Preview Only
