GOVERNOR Seriously.
FESTUS:
STORYTELLER 8: Oh, brother.
GOVERNOR Oh, brother.
FESTUS:
STORYTELLER 7: And with that...
GOVERNOR And with that...
FESTUS:
STORYTELLER 7: (looking at GOVERNOR FESTUS, and speaking firmly) ...the Governor
stopped
repeating and had Paul taken out of the prison and loaded into a
sailing ship.
(GOVERNOR FESTUS exits as the PRISON GUARD takes PAUL out of the prison cell.)
PRISON GUARD: Bring on the ship!
(The CAST MEMBERS forming the prison cell change positions and form the outline of a ship, as
indicated in the production notes, holding hands. Two more CAST MEMBERS enter with a pole
that has a triangular "sail" attached to it. ONE plants the pole in the center of the "ship" to
represent a mast, and the SECOND holds the tip of the triangle pointing stage left so the sail is
unfurled toward the back of the boat. The side of the sail that faces the audience reads, "Roman
Ship." PAUL moves to stand at the front of the ship, stage right.)
STORYTELLER 8: The ship swayed back and forth on the balls of its feet in order to simulate
a floating motion...(The CAST MEMBERS forming the ship, rock back and
forth.) ...as it rode on a sea as blue as pom-poms.
