Juggernaut is a medium-tempo shuffle chart that begins with a big, flashy intro, transitioning to a hot sax soli and then a statement by the brass. Throughout the work, the saxes get a workout, supported by cleverly written brass parts. Solo space is provided for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, and trombone, and a rhythm section player could also solo during the open section. A drum break and fills takes it to a rousing ensemble finish making this perfect as a closer or opener. Very highly recommended! 10515818 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 56.00 l Ku-Damm (From the Impressions of Berlin Suite)Oliver Nelson/ed. Bob Curnow. As recorded by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra, Ku-Damm is the first movement of the Impressions of Berlin suite. Based on the blues, as so much of Nelson's music was, this bright swing with a waltz feel in 6/4 begins with an aggressive line for woodwind doubles and adds to its intensity with the entrance of the trumpets a short while later. With solo space for alto saxophone, trombone and piano, this lively, moving composition is sure to bring an exciting contrast to any program! An optional fifth trombone part is included. 10607223 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Life in the BubbleGordon Goodwin. You don't want to miss this title track chart from Gordon Goodwin and the Big Phat Band's latest CD! Your advanced jazz ensemble will groove at around 96 bpm with swing sixteenths and solo space provided for all saxes, trumpet 3, and trombone 1. The lead trumpet range is up to written high G, there is soprano sax lead and a few modulations. Yeah, it's got some tricky spots, but it's worth the work. 2015 Grammy winner for Large Ensemble! Highly recommended! 10513948 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 n MachineBill Reddie. Recorded by the Buddy Rich Big Band on both their albums Big Swing Face and The New One, this great Bill Reddie chart is one of the most dynamic tunes Buddy every played with his band...and they played it for years and years every night. Set in a medium tempo, this chart swings unmercifully when played by a pumped up and energized rhythm section. While certainly playable, this chart is not for the faint at heart and will absolutely be loved by both your band and audiences alike. Complete with tenor saxophone solo and, of course, drum solo, Machine is a must-have! 10455870 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 l New GirlDuke Pearson. This smaller instrumentation does nothing to limit the brilliant intricacy of Duke Pearson's New Girl. The lilting melody enters and is initially stated in unison by trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax and flute. The melody is never directly re-stated, as Pearson opts for a roaring, brilliantly orchestrated shout section to follow up the solo section. Instrumentation: flute, alto sax/flute, tenor sax, baritone sax/clarinet, trombone, piano, bass, drums and optional guitar. 10607180 Jazz Ensemble Small Band. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 On Green Dolphin StreetBronislau Kaper/ arr. Gordon Goodwin. Recorded and released by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band as a digital single, this chart is an homage to Oscar Peterson. It's a solo feature including separate solo parts for piano, C instruments, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet and trombone. The tempo is around 250 bpm; the lead trumpet range is to written high F. Alto sax 1 doubles soprano sax and alto sax 2 doubles flute. A tour-de-force chart! 10353484 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 Pure Imagination (from "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory")Bricusse & Newley/ arr. Elliot Deutsch. Beginning at 130 bpm, this chart moves to double-time swing and then into a samba groove with solo space for piano and trumpet 4. Sophisticated and beautifully arranged, this arrangement features creative development and an array of unique characteristics found in exceptional charts. The lead trumpet range is to written high E. Check this one out, it's great for festivals and contests! 10513938 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 62.00 H Rhapsody in BlueGeorge Gershwin/arr. Gordon Goodwin. This is a tour-de-force arrangement by Gordon Goodwin of Gershwins's masterpiece. If you can cut it, then play it because it will truly warrant a standing ovation. The sax doubles call for piccolo (alto 1), clarinet/flute (alto 2) and bass clarinet (bari). The second alto part has the well-known clarinet solo. This chart has it all...the thematic material, swing, key changes, solo space for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet and trombone and lead trumpet range to written high F. The percussion part calls for mallets and tympani. Overall, a grasp of both jazz and classical concepts will make this chart stand apart from anything else. As recorded by the Big Phat Band. 10093211 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 10282497 CD-That's How We Roll . . . 18.98 n Roman NotesJohn LaBarbera. Featuring a hard groovin' 12/8 feel, this John LaBarbera original serves as an alto saxophone feature that also puts the entire band through its paces. The skilled scoring makes this sound harder than it really is, making this a great choice for festivals and contests. As recorded by the John LaBarbera Big Band on Caravan. 10462700 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 n The Rotten KidBuddy Greco/arr. Dick Grove. As recorded by the Buddy Rich Big Band on the album The New One, this great arrangement is full of fire and energy. Set as an up-tempo shuffle, it's a wonderful chart to feature lots of soloists along with dynamic ensemble writing throughout. There's solo space for alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and trombone, allowing each to blow as long as they would like. In addition, this tune features a saxophone soli, a short trumpet section soli (a la Dizzy), and climaxes with a great shout chorus. The Rotten Kid will be an outstanding opener or closer for any concert program! 10455882 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 n Santa Babyarr. Gordon Goodwin. In the hands of master arranger and composer Gordon Goodwin, this often-recorded Christmas novelty becomes a holiday tour de force for big bands. It's a shuffle at about 135 bpm with the melody played by bass trombone! More features include a sax soli, optional piccolo in alto 2, and the lead trumpet range is up to written high G. Add in a few modulations with solo space provided for altos 1 and 2, tenors 1 and 2, trumpet 4, and trombones and you have a swingin', fun, and clever chart in every way! 10513950 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 H Sing, Sing, SingLouis Prima/arr. Gordon Goodwin. A few twists and turns added to the original Benny Goodman swing version make this chart a definite crowd and band pleaser. Gordon Goodwin's arrangement features a clarinet part and an alternate alto 1 part in lieu of clarinet. Solo changes are provided for all saxophone parts and clarinet, and the lead trumpet range is to high F-sharp. While not recorded by Goodwin's Big Phat Band, it's a staple of the band's library and is played often in live performances. It's a wonderful rendition of this big band classic! 10311471 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 H SpainChick Corea/arr. John LaBarbera. This monster arrangement is the authentic version as recorded by Bill Watrous and his Manhattan Wildlife Refuge in the mid '70s. The signature lines and blazing tempo of Chick Corea's classic are transformed into a roaring chart for big band by master arranger John LaBarbera. Alto 1 doubles flute, and alto 2 doubles soprano sax. 10052511 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 l StablematesBenny Golson. This big-band version of Golson's legendary tune was written for the Dizzy Gillespie big band and used on one of their famous State Department tours. It roars right off the top at about 190 bpm and soon features solo trumpet with powerful band hits behind the soloist. Although written to feature Gillespie in solo spots, it is not a trumpet feature throughout. The trumpet solo is soon followed by a tenor solo, which in turn is followed by another roaring full-ensemble section. The trumpet soloist is back in for a brief statement before the finale. Exciting, powerful, and fun to hear and play, Stablemates is just as viable today as it was in the 1950s! 10607186 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 l Stomping at the Savoy (Edited Version)arr. Bill Holman. If there is one chart that seems to capture the essence of Stan Kenton's mid-fifties bands, this is the one! The chart swings like mad from downbeat to the end. This is one of Bill Holman's best early charts, with great ensemble sections and great solo spaces for guitar or piano, bass, trumpet, and tenor saxophone. This is very sophisticated music included on arguably the best album the Kenton band ever recorded, Contemporary Concepts. This edited version of Stomping at the Savoy is the same as the original except it is written for eight brass instead of ten. 10607241 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 There Is No Greater LoveIsham Jones/arr. Eric Richards. Eric Richards presents an excellent swing chart for a strong band! Set at 184 bpm, it opens with a small group contrafact and includes some solo space for alto, trombone, and piano, followed by a kickin' sax soli and a shout. The lead trumpet range goes to written high D. A quality chart from top to bottom! 10452158 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 n Things to ComeGillespie & Fuller/arr. Gordon Goodwin. Composed by Dizzy Gillespie and Gil Fuller, here's Gordon Goodwin's chart as recorded by Arturo Sandoval and his big band on the CD, Dear Diz (Every Day I Think of You). This is a challenging swing chart that is very fast at around 202-232 bpm. The solo space is for all 5 saxes, trombones 1 and 2 and trumpet 4, with the lead trumpet range going to written high F-sharp with optional A-flats. There are nice sax solis and a trumpet section soli (or solo) that will be a challenge. If you have the horses, play it! 10362382 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 4 TurnaboutBenny Carter. Of all Benny Carter's small-group charts and big-band compositions, few live up to this one! Written for and recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their 1961 release The Legend, it smokes right off the top. The features include a very bright tempo, roaring full-band sections, and virtuosic demands across all sections of the band, especially the saxophone section. The solo space is for tenor saxophones 1 and 2 with individual solos, then a tenor chase that is supported by wonderful ensemble hits. Even better bands will find this full-time swinger a challenge, but it will be so worth the effort! Very highly recommended! 10607194 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 H The Real Book - Volume 1— Various Composers. The "Real Books" are the best-selling jazz books of all time.
