SCENE 1
(Scene opens on a playground. Coach Walker is wearing a
baseball cap, flip-up sunglasses, referee-type shirt and carrying
a clipboard. Kids are all looking down at their phones, even
while playing.)
COACH WALKER:
(blows whistle) Alright, already! Put down your phones. Give
me your attention. My name is Coach Walker, and I am so
glad you've chosen to spend your summer mornings here at
the Prayground!
JEREMY:
Don't you mean PLAYGROUND?
COACH WALKER: No, sir! You heard it right. Seeing how we're at church and
all . . . in fact, I came up with that name myself twenty-three
years ago when we started this program. Pretty clever, don't
you think?
ESTHER:
(giggling) Well . . . clever is not exactly the word I was
thinking of . . .
