9 46515 [SCENE 1 – The angels are in Heaven. The shepherds are in the field "below" (see Directors' Notes for staging suggestions), tending their flock. CLARENCE is watching the shepherds with great concern.] ANGELA: CLARENCE: ANGELA: CLARENCE: ANGELA: CLARENCE: ANGELA: CLARENCE: [HEAD ANGEL enters] LEONARDO: HEAD ANGEL: GABRIEL: HEAD ANGEL: GABRIEL: HEAD ANGEL: STARR: HEAD ANGEL: ALL ANGELS: CLARENCE: HARPO: HEAD ANGEL: ALL ANGELS: HEAD ANGEL: ALL ANGELS: What are you looking at, Clarence, my dear? Is there some trouble with those shepherds down there? Yes. They need help immediately! Are they sick? No, discouraged. That's even worse. My dear! What can we do? We'll have to think of something; but first, we should find out about our next assignment. Oh, yes—the assignment! Seeing those poor shepherds made me forget about the assignment. When do you think we'll get our orders? We're expecting the Head Angel to come down from the Upstairs Office any minute. Here he comes now! Attention all angels! Attention! I'm here from the Upstairs Office with our new—and I might add—best assignment ever! You gotta be kidding man! The coolest assignment ever had to be telling Mary—and then, Joseph—that their Baby would be the Son of God—the Savior of the world. Believe it or not, this is even more amazing! So what could be more amazing, dude? If you all had been paying attention, you would have noticed that a Baby was born tonight in the city of Bethlehem. That Baby is Jesus—God's Son—and it's time for us to make the big announcement! Which important group is going to be the first to hear the news, sir? Do you see those shepherds down there? They are the ones we are going to tell. What!? Oh, that is wonderful! I've been worried about those guys down there. They are so discouraged. This news should give them hope. So, how are we going to tell them? We're gonna rock their world by flying right over them and telling good tidings of great joy! [ad lib] Yeah! Amen! Hallelujah! That's what I'm talking about! Then, Clarence, how about you take over since you're so concerned about this group? I'll follow up, and we'll end with that big mass choir piece we've been practicing. [ad lib] Yes! Okay! Great! That's a perfect plan! For Preview Only
