You have got to have this spectacular Alan Baylock chart on the Maynard Ferguson and Alan Downey classic! The tempo is brisk at about 220 bpm, but it could be played effectively at a slightly slower tempo. Solo space is provided for all four trumpets for flexibility. If you're looking for a more substantial holiday offering for better groups, this Gordon Goodwin chart is it! It's a medium-slow swing take on this Johnny Marks standard with a few modulations, outstanding ensemble passages, terrific shout choruses, and solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4 and trombones 1 and 2. A great sax section soli rounds out this excellent chart. This one is so nice, you'll want to play it year 'round! Inspired by a YouTube video collage of jazz soloists playing a common sequence of notes, this piece uses "the lick" in a variety of unison and harmonized permutations. A medium swinger with a jazz intro, it heads right into a sax soli on a nice linear melodic line. The solos are for piano, tenor, or anyone, followed by a big, swinging ensemble feature. Bass trombone players can count on one hand the good charts available for their instrument. Well, here is one of the best yet arranged by Dave Wolpe in the style of the great George Roberts. With a medium-swing feel, this showcase will bring out the best in your bass trombone player with no improvisation, just written melody. There is some written or improvised jazz for 2nd trumpet in harmon mute, and the lead trumpet has a unison line to written high E. A nice sax soli is the icing on the cake. This is an awesome Mingus double-time swing chart in the original version as recorded on the Mingus Big Band 93 CD. It kicks off with a hot bari sax intro, features some really tight licks, an extended open solo section, and an infectious bari sax line that drives the whole piece. Serious jazz for serious bands! 2388650 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 Moment's NoticeJohn Coltrane/arr. Alan Baylock. Alan Baylock crafts a great swinger on one of Coltrane's brilliant compositions. Set around 208 bpm, this chart includes solo space for alto and tenor and a lead trumpet range to written high C.
