In Greek mythology, Boreas is the cold north wind, making this piece a great addition to any winter concert. The mysterious opening leads to an exciting finale. Students will experience spiccato and legato bowing styles, multiple down bows, and key changes. 10453642 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 10453690 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 l By Dawn's Early LightDavid Shaffer. A gentle and expressive piece for intermediate orchestra that will help teach the fine art of legato playing. The optional piano part adds to its beauty and provides an exquisite change of pace for any performance. 10756562 String Orchestra with Piano . . 40.00 10756565 Additional Score with Piano . . 40.00 Carpe DiemRichard Meyer. Full of energy and excitement, this overture makes the perfect concert opener or closer. Tuneful melodies and shifting moods explore a wide variety of string playing techniques, while the colorful orchestration gives every section a chance in the spotlight. This A B A work opens with a high-spirited main theme followed by a more lyrical second theme. The contrasting middle section is a tender lullaby introduced first by solo violin, and then taken up with great emotion by the entire ensemble. The opening section returns, refreshingly re- orchestrated for added interest. The piece ends in a flurry of excitement. Playable by middle- level groups but definitely mature enough for the advanced string orchestra. 10027605 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 56.00 CatharsisAmy Cann/arr. Phillips. One of the most popular contemporary fiddle tunes - many notable artists, including Natalie McMaster, have performed this piece. It is a super-cool tune with a compelling rhythmic drive that is, unexpectedly, set in G minor. 10310339 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 54.00 10310341 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 H The CodeAlan Lee Silva. Like the underscore of an international spy movie, this piece promises drama from the opening bar. The evocative harmonies, plus tight moving lines and syncopated rhythms, immediately catch the ear. Pulsating eighth-note patterns drive the piece all the way through to the spirited conclusion. Sure to have everyone on the edge of their seat. 10278001 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 10278003 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 6.50 ConquistadorDeborah Baker Monday. A dramatic work with a hint of romance, Conquistador! depicts the life and adventures of the Spanish explorers. Rhythmic motives in A minor provide a glimpse into life on the trail, and the softer, lyrical section depicts a quiet night under the stars. It's a great way to bring history into the music rehearsal! 2703086 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 62.00 H Contrasts in E MinorFrancis Feese. This unique and interesting work is divided into three sections. It begins with a catchy, "spy-sounding" opening theme, which is contrasted with an emotional slower section, and ends with an exciting 6/8 time signature galop that features the lower strings. It is standard string orchestra literature that comes highly recommended for intermediate level groups. 2136216 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 6049142 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 6.50 H CreaturesBrian Balmages. It's great for year-round use, but would be especially scary at Halloween. The composer describes it as "a dark and sinister night full of strange happenings and ghoulish encounters." Opening with a menacing march as creatures emerge from the darkness, dissonances soon appear in upper strings, including the chance to play any pitch in the chaos! Finally the audience hears footsteps in retreat from the coming dawn. 10027353 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 10027354 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 Curse of the Rosin Eating ZombiesRichard Meyer. It had to happen! Richard Meyer's wildly successful Rosin Eating Zombies From Outer Space created an insatiable hunger for more of the same! It seems that string players (and directors) love to get a chance to: Give blood curdling screams; knock on their instruments, bow behind the bridge for that "psycho sound"; use pizzicato, tremolo, trills, make munching noises and talk like zombies! Detailed directions are given for the faint of heart. Keep string playing fun; choose this highly recommended winner! 2472802 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 56.00 n The Dance of IscariotKirt N. Mosier. A rhythmically-charged composition for students. All parts playable in first position. 2382380 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 l Dancing KitesChris M. Bernotas. With a light, memorable melody and rich harmonies, Dancing Kites will expose your students to musical subtleties and nuance, developing their abilities to perform in a lyrical style. Correlates to Sound Innovations Book 2, Level 2. 10738919 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 46.00 10738951 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 Danse InfernaleElliot Del Borgo. Starting off as a driving modal work, the "Infernal Dance" soon turns to a warm cantabile middle section, giving your strings a chance to show their flexibility. Del Borgo uses string sonorities such as harmonics, mutes, basic third position, and more to get the most out of your orchestra. 2474323 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 Dark AdventureRalph Ford. It's ghostly! It's creepy! Your orchestra will love it! From the driving opening motives to the quirky gypsy-sounding theme, this is haunted-house music at its best! You can play this with either full or string orchestra, but the percussion section is really vital and should be used in both cases. This is recommended and will thrill and delight your audience! A winner! 2466837 String or Full Orchestra . . . . . 59.00 5972599 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 4 Doppler EffectSean O'Loughlin. The term "Doppler effect" describes the aural phenomenon of a changing pitch produced by a moving sound source relative to the listener's position, like a siren passing you on the street. The composer uses this fascinating concept to construct an original work that uses instances of this effect. A broad melody acts as a connective element in the piece, with a multitude of teaching opportunities for dynamics and musicality. 10739236 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 10739237 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 7.00 Double TroubleLauren Bernofsky. Here's a punchy teaching tune to make the key of D come to life! All the voices have fun with the edgy and rhythmic eighth note "double trouble" motif. Emphasis on accents and tight ensemble playing will make this a class favorite! 10091950 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 40.00 10091951 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 l Dream EngineLarry Clark. This concert overture utilized the classic ABA form. The opening section has a tuneful melody over spiccato accompaniments that weaves throughout the ensemble. The middle B section is slow, lyrical, lush, and beautiful as a contrast to the lighter A section. 10739238 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 10739239 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 7.00 l El Gato Precario (The Precarious Cat)Jeffrey Frizzi. This Grade 2+ piece is written in D minor and has a fun and playful Latin feel. Full of very playable syncopation that is written in all parts, the violas and second violins will enjoy being featured. 10682779 String Orchestra with Piano . . 48.00 10682781 Additional Score with Piano . . . 6.00 Electric SinfoniaLauren Bernofsky. Hop onboard with this red-hot piece that includes hints of rock music. Musicians hit the ground running as aggressive lines contrast with longer, sweeping phrases. Perfect for building confidence in your group, individual parts are quite easy to play — but when you put everything together, the group will sound sensational! 10454271 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 10454304 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 H The Evil Eye and the Hideous HeartAlan Lee Silva. Based on the classic Edgar Allan Poe short story "The Tell-Tale Heart," this work is reminiscent of a classic Hollywood horror movie theme. The piano and optional harp and percussion parts punctuate the tension and suspense that is felt from the first note to the last. The basses act as the low, ominous threat of danger, and the upper voices represent the insanity of the main character's twisted plan. A real thriller! 10093787 String Orchestra, Percussion Opt . . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 10093788 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 7.00 Fantasia on a Theme from ThailandRichard Meyer. This captivating work is a set of variations on the Pong Lang Dance, one of Thailand's most popular melodies. The pong lang is like a xylophone with its wooden keys suspended vertically on ropes, with the low notes on the upper end and the high notes at the bottom. The melody uses the pentatonic scale and is very simple in nature. The variations expand on fragments of the original tune in a variety of tempi and styles that make each new change thrilling! After this exploration, the original melody returns, gradually gaining speed and energy as one would hear in a traditional performance of this dance. 10015211 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 H Fantasia on an Original ThemeJoseph Phillips. This is a poignant and distinctively Irish- flavored fantasia in a cantabile style. Violists will love the opening soli introduction that is quite beautiful. A very nice piece at the intermediate level. Recorded by Michigan State University Orchestra on the CD, Teaching Music Through Performance in Orchestra Volume 1 - Pepper # 5973728. 2301364 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 5399704 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 A Fiddler's FancyRichard Meyer. Full of educational opportunities for every section, this two-movement work has an old-fashioned folk music sound. Wisteria Waltz is lush and legato while Fig's Frolic is patterned after the energy of a cute but hungry little dog. Two contrasting gems! 10453641 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 49.00 10453689 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 7.00 Forever Joyful!Brian Balmages. Inspired by pure joy, this work explores uplifting and lighthearted emotions. The music has a constant rhythmic pulse that gently interacts with graceful melodic lines and countermelodies. Engaging harmonies create a complex tapestry without overtaxing any of the individual performers. 10512564 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 10512565 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 Geometric DancesRichard Meyer. Consider this excellent original piece for your next concert or contest...an incredible amount of variety, creativity and cleverness have gone into the creation of its three separate movements: Square Dance; Round Dance and Triangle Dance. Each is musically satisfying and offers a variety of challenging playing techniques. Winner of the 1995 Texas Orchestra Director's Association Composition Contest! 2346484 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 56.00 H Ghost CarnivalErik Morales. The piece has memorable melodies and interesting, lush harmonies. 10592913 String Orchestra. . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 10592914 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . 6.50 BEST SELLERS String Orchestra Original Concert Works Medium-Easy Buy with confidence!
