Concert Marches
Rough Riders—Karl L. King/arr. Swearingen.
What a terrific march at this level! Sometimes
termed a galop, this is one of King's easier
marches, and James Swearingen's edition for
modern concert band is right on the mark! Rough
Riders will make a great choice for concert,
festival or contest use, and is sure to be the hit of
your next performance.

e St. Petersburg March—Johnnie Vinson. This
original march is reminiscent of the Russian city's
rich and exciting history of intrigue, revolution and
mystery. Expertly scored for young bands, this
unique and fresh-sounding work paints a musical
picture of frigid winters, magnificent castles and
imposing cathedrals. A wonderful addition to the
march repertoire for band.

4 The Kid's Sunshine March—Richard Hem-
bree. This work was inspired by the theme to a
popular show many students watched, itself an
incarnation of Beethoven's Turkish March. The
piece kicks off with Beethoven's theme, then
detaches itself rather quickly, becoming more
like a distant cousin yet maintaining the quirky air
of the show's theme. The fun, simple melody is
passed around to each section of the band before
ending with a few surprising modulations.
