Wide Open Spaces—Sarah Quartel. Comm-
issioned for the 2015 National Conference of the
American Choral Directors Association, Wide Open
Spaces reflects on the journeys and adventures to
be found in the wide open spaces within ourselves
and in the world around us. The uplifting melody is
passed from the upper voices to the lower voices
before the piece opens out into an expansive texture
with rich harmonies. A playful episode of scat singing
is introduced before a resolute final chorus brings this
evocative piece to a peaceful and serene close.

l Will the Rain Fall Down?—Braeden Ayres.
Will the Rain Fall Down tells the story of a "Dust
Bowl" (1930s) era farmer who, after years of
discouragement, still retains hope for the future.
The musical story-telling style is haunting, made
more so by the addition of optional percussion.
Written for tenor-bass choirs of all sizes and
abilities, the TB1, TB2 or TB(B) flexible voicing
option is sure to meet the needs of any tenor-bass
ensemble. A great cross curricular musical work!

Will You Teach Me?—Victor C. Johnson.
A poignant, inspiring anonymous text is perfectly
wedded to the music in this beguiling setting.
This is a piece that your students will hold dear to
their hearts as they sing their very best. "Will you
teach me how to dream, to face the future sight
unseen? ... Will you teach me how to soar, to see
things never seen before? But most importantly of
all, will you teach me how to be the only thing I
can be... Me?" An optional oboe part is included

Windy Nights—Cynthia Gray. A dramatic poem
by Robert Louis Stevenson is the inspiration for this
intense, exhilarating work, which portrays the poet's
childhood fear of storms. The music aptly captures
the sound and excitement of a stormy, windy night,
which the text likens to a riding horseman and the
pounding of his horse's hooves. Excellent editorial
notes provide fascinating background about this
poem and its famous author. This is wonderful
poetry and music for developing choirs!

4 Wishing Star—Beth Bolton/arr. Laura Farnell.
"Shining and shimmering up in the sky..."
Wishing Star is a text reminiscent of the Star
Light, Star Bright nursery rhyme. Beth Bolton
and Laura Farnell's use of mixolydian mode and
compound meter create a sense of longing with
an endearing, whimsical quality. Treble choirs will
appreciate the challenge of the compound meter
and independence of line that creates the beautiful
quality of this concert piece.
