4t Dona Nobis Pacem—Daniel Elder. "Give us
peace." These three words echo an ancient plea that
is equally relevant in our present turbulent society
that seeks respite from the barriers that divide us. As
such, the Latin word omnia (meaning "all") has been
added alongside the original text to underline this
idea of unity and equality. The a cappella setting is
harmonically modern and unabashedly sentimental,
giving a wonderful musical juxtaposition with the
ancient text that allows the deep and healing
message to be clearly articulated. Stunning!

Earth Song—Frank Ticheli. A cry for peace in a
world torn by war, this poignant a cappella setting
of an original text is filled with striking dynamic
contrasts. "Sing, Be, Live, See... This dark stormy
hour, the wind, it stirs. The scorched earth cries
out in vain... But music and singing have been my
refuge, and music and singing shall be my light..."

Et in Terra Pax—Victor C. Johnson.
This heartfelt and poignant setting of the traditional
Latin text "And on earth, peace" features soaring
melodies and rich harmonies. The middle section
further develops the text with borrowed tonality
for added color and harmonic interest before a
resolution to the opening melody once again.
Equally appropriate for school concerts or a worship
setting; any time of the year is a fitting time to
present this message. A helpful pronunciation guide
and translation is included for the Latin text.

Every Life Shall Be a Song—
Gwyneth Walker.
A celebration of life, unity,
and music, this is a setting of a poem by the 19th-
century English author John Addington Symonds.
The text speaks of the future with hope, with the
healing and transforming power of music being
essential to this hope. The musical expression
alternates between added-tone chords which
represent building for the future, melodic phrases for
the more tender passages of the poem, and soaring
choral lines. The optional brass and percussion
accompaniment make for a powerful and beautiful
orchestration. Commissioned and premiered by the
Boston Gay Men's Chorus.

From Earth to Heaven—Craig Courtney.
The ethereal nature of the Samuel Francis Smith
poem is perfectly paired with masterful text
painting until the two become one in spirit and
understanding. The move from earth to heaven
is flawless. The music is deep; the text rich and
profound. The melody line moves to harmony
and back again until it finally finds a resting place.
Scored for SATB choir and piano with optional string
quartet or orchestral parts available. Glorious!

I Ask For One Day—Jim Papoulis. "I ask for
one day where I don't have to hear about pain, or
life that's lost. I ask for one day where whispers
of hope are alive inside my heart." These words,
written by 12 year old Claire Latimer for a choral
workshop were so moving, they inspired this
marvelous work. A song that motivates us all to
work for peace, this arrangement is very appropriate
for children's community, middle school or younger
high school ensembles.

I Choose Love—Mark A. Miller. In the midst of
pain, of war, of brokenness... we choose love. We
choose community. What better way to share this
message than through powerful song... and that's
exactly what you'll find in this anthem for SATB
voices. This soulful anthem, written in response to
the tragic events that occurred at Emmanuel African
Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South
Carolina in 2015, is a testament to the power of
forgiveness and peace. Appropriate for general use
or as a memorial, this beautifully written piece begins
with a solo, then rises to a full choral statement that
returns to a solo for the close. Highly recommended!

I Dream a World—Connor J. Koppin.
With Langston Hughes' famous poetry at the
forefront, the composer has created a gorgeous and
tender work that truly brings light to a darkened world.
The piece was composed as a memorial to a family,
and the instrumentation and style were inspired by
their lives. The poem heralds equality, empathy and
kindness, and the emotive setting fits seamlessly
with that theme. The memorable melody and expertly
crafted piano accompaniment and instrumental lines
for viola and cello will stick with your singers, being a
lifelong lesson that will come back to them in difficult
times. Expressive and moving!
