l And Christ Shall Be Our Peace—arr. K. Lee
Scott. A two-part mixed voices anthem with
keyboard and optional small handbell ensemble. The
text is also useful for any Sunday with the theme
Christ the Good Shepherd. The two-part texture
allows for some singers to ring bells as needed.

H Antiphon (Let All the World in Every Corner
Sing)—Ralph Vaughan Williams. The climactic
finale to Vaughan-Williams' "Five Mystical Songs"
is a staple of the sacred choral repertoire and a
superb culminating work for both concert and
worship settings.

Lt Ave Generosa—Ola Gjeilo. This setting of
Hildegard of Bingen's Ave Generosa text uses
a hauntingly joyful tonality, paying homage to
the mysterious story of Mary. A beautiful middle
section is surrounded by contrasting modal
beginning and ending sections. The juxtaposition
of sustained and moving moments holds true to
the composer's style, while the harmonic structure
and vocal construction offer very fresh textures.
Highly recommended!

4L Ave Maria (No. 13, Regina Caeli, after
t Guerrero)—Daniel Knaggs. Inspired by Ave
Maria composed by the Renaissance Spanish
composer Francisco Guerrero, this very
interesting work co-mingles the Renaissance
style with modern harmonic language. It begins
with an inversion of Guerrero's opening motive
and uses the specific, slightly altered Latin text
that he set. It is a beautiful choice for four-part
mixed a cappella choirs.

Be Still—Patrick Hawes. A setting of the well-
known phrase from Psalm 46, "Be still, and know
that I am God" for choir and piano. The piano's
repeated chordal patterns flow gently throughout,
and the long legato choral lines help the listener
drift into a world of peace and beauty. The
composer wrote this piece early one morning when
all was still and shrouded in a thin mist. Beautiful!

Lt Behold, How Good—Michael John Trotta.

Trotta has written a lovely a cappella piece that
celebrates the unity of brotherhood among all
people. This calm, sonorous work is the perfect

easy-to-learn refrain invites participation from all
as it moves through the themes and images of the
Eucharistic celebration. The added clarinet part adds
movement and a unique timbre under the choral
parts. Perfect for use during any time of the year.

Can We Sing the Darkness to Light?—Kyle
Pederson. The text of this work invites the listener
to imagine a world without weapons of war where
the human experience is defined through the lens
of mercy and compassion. The music is peaceful
and very appropriate to the text with little divisi in the
choral parts and a supportive piano accompaniment.

lt Cantate Domino—Pete Deshler. Combining the
traditional Latin text from Psalm 149 with driving
rhythms and rich, contemporary harmonies, this
piece will make a strong opening selection. Set as a
modern motet, the dance-like texture is joyous and
accented, with moving harmonies and overlapping
lines that build to a thrilling conclusion.
11202474 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.05
l Cantate Domino—David von Kampen. This lively
and joyful piece composed in 2/2 by David von
Kampen begins with a beautiful piano introduction.
When the choir joins, a playful dialogue occurs
between the Latin refrain and English verses from
Psalm 98. With a somber middle bridge, the song
finishes triumphantly, declaring "Cantate Domino!"

4L Chorister's Prayer—Craig Phillips. The beloved
text of the Choristers' Prayer, "Bless, O Lord, us Thy
servants who minister in Thy temple" is set warmly
by Craig Phillips. The vocal lines may be sung either
by unison treble voices or with the inclusion of an
optional lower second part in a few spots. Lovely.

prayer for every choir member or pastoral musician
who makes music for the church. Suitable for use in

Organ Accompaniment . . . . . . 1.75
Day by Day—Thomas Keesecker. This well-
known 13th-century text is the basis for the opening
stanza, followed by a fine new text for stanzas two
and three. Set for unison voices with an optional
second part, it is easily adapted to performance by
treble or mixed voices. The accompaniment, for
organ or piano, adds nice touches of color.

4L Dixit Dominus (RV 595)—Antonio Vivaldi/
arr. Patrick M. Liebergen. Joy instantly abounds
as the well-edited keyboard introduction sets
the tone for this impressive yet approachable
Baroque selection for developing choirs. The
short Latin text is easy to manage and will help
your choir sound its best. Beautiful phrasing and
conservative ranges in each voice part make this
a sure-fire festival opening selection.

t Do Not Be Afraid—Philip W.J. Stopford. This
anthem of comfort and assurance is built around
the words "do not be afraid." The repetition of these
words evokes a sense of calm that permeates the
piece. Beautifully crafted.

4L Dona Nobis Pacem (from "Heiligmesse")—
Franz Joseph Haydn/arr. Patrick M. Liebergen.
Taken from Haydn's masterwork, this shortened
edition has also been transposed to make it more
accessible. The setting of the compact Latin
text explores many of the conventions of the
Classical period, including energized homophonic
choral lines, structured musical form, and stark
dynamic contrasts. The SAB offers cued note
options to make the range more conservative for
younger voices.

from Kim Andre Arnesen's "Magnificat," this
luscious setting opens with a hauntingly gorgeous
soprano solo. Undulating choral rhythms and
sublime a cappella moments make this a piece not
to be ignored. Meaningful and artistically rewarding.

4L Exsultate! Jubilate!—Kyle Pederson. This
unique setting pairs the iconic Latin text with a
new, original English text which responds to the
question: Why do we rejoice and shout our praises
to God? The music captures the energy, rhythm,
and exuberance inherent in the phrases "exsultate
Deo" and "jubilate Deo," but also reflects the quiet
joys found in gratitude for the daily gifts of breath
and light. The piano accompaniment is rhythmic
and lively.

4L Guard Us, Lord—Ephrem Feeley. Ephrem Feeley

Psalm 139, especially meaningful for confirmation,
night prayer, vigil Masses, and rituals of blessing.
Suitable for small choirs, a cantor sings the verses
and the congregation may join in the refrain.

4t Holy Is the True Light—Robert Benson. Voiced
for a cappella double choir (SSAATTBB) and
making effective use of added-tone chords and
modal harmonic progressions, this brilliant setting
of Palmer's translation from the Salisbury Diurnal
will be a satisfying challenge for advanced choirs.
The lyrics focus on the topics of faith and light,
especially the eternal light of heaven, and close with
a festive string of "alleluias," making it an excellent
choice for All Saints liturgies.

4 I Sought the Lord—Karen Marrolli. Karen Marrolli

Jubilate Deo in C Major—Benjamin Britten. This
3-minute work is another of Britten's best-known
and most often performed short choral works.
With its lively and spirited organ accompaniment
and its simple and direct vocal phrases it positively
bubbles with the joyful mood of the words. Short
and to the point, it is also straightforward and well
within the reach of most choirs. It does need a
competent organist who can perform rhythmically,
and play scales!

L
Let Us Break Bread Together—arr. Gwyneth
Walker. Utilizing the traditional African American
tune, this artistic setting focuses on two central
images: breaking bread together in communion and
fellowship, and falling on one's knees in prayer. Both
images have liturgical and community references of
the messages of healing and humility. The first two
verses are familiar, but a new verse has been added
to address the time of great divisions in our country,
when there is a need for strength through unity. "Let
us rise up together as one."
