Ave Maria
No. 13, Regina Caeli, after Guerrero
Daniel Knaggs.
Inspired by Ave Maria composed by the Renaissance
Spanish composer Francisco Guerrero, this very
interesting work co-mingles the Renaissance style
with modern harmonic language. It begins with an
inversion of Guerrero's opening motive and uses the
specific, slightly altered Latin text that he set. It is a
beautiful choice for four-part mixed a cappella choirs.

Dona Nobis Pacem
from "Heiligmesse"
Franz Joseph Haydn/arr. Patrick M. Liebergen.
Taken from Haydn's masterwork, this shortened
edition has also been transposed to make it more
accessible. The setting of the compact Latin text
explores many of the conventions of the Classical
period, including energized homophonic choral lines,
structured musical form, and stark dynamic contrasts.
The SAB offers cued note options to make the range
more conservative for younger voices.

Exsultate! Jubilate!
Kyle Pederson.
This unique setting pairs the iconic Latin text with
a new, original English text which responds to the
question: Why do we rejoice and shout our praises
to God? The music captures the energy, rhythm, and
exuberance inherent in the phrases "exsultate Deo"
and "jubilate Deo," but also reflects the quiet joys
found in gratitude for the daily gifts of breath and
light. The piano accompaniment is rhythmic and lively.

Holy Is the True Light
Robert Benson.
Voiced for a cappella double choir (SSAATTBB) and
making effective use of added-tone chords and
modal harmonic progressions, this brilliant setting of
Palmer's translation from the Salisbury Diurnal will be
a satisfying challenge for advanced choirs. The lyrics
focus on the topics of faith and light, especially the
eternal light of heaven, and close with a festive string
of "alleluias," making it an excellent choice for All
Saints liturgies.

Anthony Bernarducci.
This glorious four-part mixed divisi a cappella setting
combines text from the Kyrie of the Ordinary of the
Mass with text from the Prayer of St. Francis. Moving

it was written in commemoration of James Jordan's
25th anniversary at Westminster Choir College.

A number of movements from Requiem for the
Living by Dan Forrest comfortably stand alone. The
"Sanctus", movement IV from the work, is scored for
divisi mixed chorus with keyboard or orchestra (full
or chamber). For the advanced church, collegiate, or
community ensemble, the piece could easily open a
concert or be used on Christ the King Sunday.

Talia Miracula
Brad Nix.
Luxurious in harmonic language and choral timbre,
this magnificent octavo describes the angel's
announcement of Christ's birth to the shepherds.
Emerging poetically from stillness, the piece opens
organically as the divine light breaks forth in angelic
acclamations of "Lux" and "Gloria." Divided voices
and evocative dissonances create a substantial sonic
stack and the cyclical text returns to the opening
silence before ending peacefully.
