Alla Danza Tedesca—Ludwig van Beethoven/
arr. Deborah Baker Monday. Alla Danza Tedesca
(German dance) is the fourth of six movements
in Beethoven's quartet, Op. 130, composed in
1826, the year before his death. While the complex
original is simplified here, the delightful character is
maintained. Following the form of standard quartets,
all parts have interest as they weave back and forth
with imitative motives. Effective dynamics and three-
beat slurs make great teaching points in all parts.

Allegretto (from "The Creatures of
Prometheus")—Ludwig van Beethoven/
arr. Rick England. Absolutely perfect for cross-
curricular study in middle school or high school!
Prometheus, through trickery, stole fire from Zeus,
gave it to mortals and was punished daily for
eternity for his crime. Beethoven's melody itself
has a bit of trickery and a good deal of moxy as
it weaves through each section of the orchestra.
The story and Beethoven's marvelous music will
provide good discussion among the players and
even your audience.

adaptation for string orchestra can be a centerpiece
of most any program. A wonderful addition to your
concert repertoire!

Egmont Overture—Beethoven/
arr. Robert D. McCashin. Magnificent! String
players have gained a new addition to the string
repertoire with this arrangement of Beethoven's
most famous overture. The strings have been split in
8 voices: 4 violin, 2 viola, 1 cello, and 1 bass, making
this ideal for larger, more mature string programs,
combined or mass string orchestras, or even to be
played as an octet in chamber music programs.

arr. Todd Parrish. The Fidelio Overture was written
in 1814 to open Beethoven's only opera by the
same name. This string orchestra arrangement is
transposed from the original E major to the more
approachable key of D major. It retains the original
opening which alternates between powerful majestic
bursts and lyrical harmonic progressions, finishing
with the energetic presto to the end. Optional
timpani gives this arrangement a symphonic quality
that closely resembles the original.

much of the material from his extended coda
section. A very approachable selection that features
classical bowings and style without too much

Romance in G Major (for Two Solo Violins and
String Orchestra)—Ludwig van Beethoven/
arr. Robert McCashin. Beethoven's Romance
in G Major was originally penned as a solo violin
work with orchestra. In this arrangement, it has
been craftily reworked for two violins and string
orchestra. It maintains the entirety of the solo line
(creatively shared by the two soloists) as well as the
full "Beethoven sound" in the orchestration. The
greatest benefit provided by this arrangement is that
it is now much more accessible - not only to younger
violinists, but also to the string orchestra setting.
