Accessible and fun to rehearse and play, this
timeless swing tune contains all the key ingredients

pattern as it recurs throughout and the solid swing
style that has become so familiar over the decades.
Other features include easy brass ranges (with

String of Pearls—Jerry Gray/arr. Mike Lewis.
Arranger Mike Lewis has taken this swinging Glenn
Miller hit and arranged it for easy jazz ensemble.
His clever reworking of the solo sections and the
descending harmony line makes this chart very
playable for the young jazz musician. The trumpet
1 range is to written F top line and it features
instrumentation options from 9 to 19 players. This
is one of the ultimate crowd pleasers and it's ideal
for any performance!

Summertime—George Gershwin/arr. Rich
DeRosa. This Gershwin classic has a refreshing
sound as the chorale introduction slips into a
slow swing feel reminiscent of the legendary
Miles Davis/Gil Evans arrangement. Arranger Rich
DeRosa brings a big sound to the young jazz band.
This arrangement includes easy written solos
for trombone, trumpet, tenor sax, and alto sax,
with backgrounds behind each; a simple but very
effective shout chorus; and easy brass ranges.
Introduce your young players to Gershwin with this
outstanding chart! Optional reduced or expanded
instrumentation.

the chord changes to It Don't Mean a Thing
by Duke Ellington, Swing Thing is the perfect

keys along with scales to assist students with
improvisation. Playable with optional reduced
or expanded instrumentation, optional parts are

l Uptown Throwdown—Zachary Smith. Starting
off with a hard-swinging sax soli, this is a very cool
shuffle-swing groove. Written solos are provided for
trombone and alto. There is a stop-time interlude,
a big shout chorus, and an optional vocal shout-out
too! This is a powerful chart everyone will enjoy - so

Cannonball Adderley made it famous, brother Nat
composed it and now Terry White provides a terrific
swing chart for younger jazz groups. It swings hard,
features a catchy, easy to play melody, and is
mature sounding. Suggested solos are provided for
alto 1 and trumpet 1, plus there's a great interlude
and shout chorus. Trumpet 1 top note is written

H 5.4 on the Richter Scale—Larry Neeck. 5.4 on
the Richter Scale is an upbeat modern-sounding
swing chart that really cooks! Hip 5/4 blues sections
are contrasted with a straight-ahead swingin' 4/4
blues, which gives this chart its unique appeal.
There are plenty of opportunities for your soloists to
improvise on 4/4 blues changes, or with the written
suggested solos included. It will sound great with
full or reduced instrumentation. Tired of the same
old blues? 5.4 on the Richter Scale is a really fresh
chart for your next concert!

702 Shuffle—Bret Zvacek. Need a great opener
or a burning closer? 702 Shuffle can take care of
either spot on the program! With a strong melody,
an infectious groove and solid ensemble work,
this Bret Zvacek composition will fit well into any
program. The open solo section allows for plenty of
room for your soloist to stretch out with the provided
solo or improvisation. Highly recommended!

H Abracadabra—Larry Barton. The magic of this
slinky swinger will put your audience under a spell!
The lead wind players start things out on the head,
but before long the full band is jamming along. It's
an "in your face" chart that's all about attitude!

H Afternoon—Pat Metheny/arr. Bob Curnow. Here
is a slow, swinging, lovely, warm, relaxed chart in
the style of that famous Neal Hefti swing ballad! The
arrangement is subtle and easy to play, and there
are not a lot of pieces by Pat Metheny that swing
in this way. The arrangement suggests flugelhorns
throughout, although trumpets would work just fine.
There is solo space for alto saxophone and trumpet/
flugel. Very nice!

Afternoon in Paris—John Lewis/arr. Mark Taylor.
John Lewis (composer, pianist, and founder of the
acclaimed Modern Jazz Quartet) penned Afternoon
in Paris in the 1950s and it has remained a jazz
standard ever since. This nicely crafted version
for developing jazz ensembles opens with a small
group on the head and drums on brushes. Solos for
trumpet and tenor follow with suggested solos and
scale/chord sheets provided, along with dynamic
full ensemble statements. Highly recommended!

And Stay Out!—Terry White. Get ready to swing
hard! This easy medium-tempo blues in B-flat
features some great ensemble section-writing
and the band has some nice shout moments
throughout. The solo sections feature the trumpet,
trombone and later alto or tenor sax with written
solos included. This is a great tune to get the energy
going at your next concert!

Artistry in Rhythm—Stan Kenton/arr. Paul
Murtha. Composed and recorded by Stan Kenton in
the 1940s, Artistry in Rhythm became his signature
and a true classic from the big-band era. Paul
Murtha has skillfully adapted and truncated this for
younger players while maintaining the flavor and
energy of the original. Solo piano starts things off
followed by the iconic trombone solo in the medium
Latin section. The exciting double time swing section
features the entire ensemble, then the maestoso
theme returns to close things out. Impressive!

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes—arr. Ralph
Ford. Crazy title? It's from the movie of the same
name and is a tongue-in-cheek swing chart
adapted from a much more difficult chart by
Gordon Goodwin for his Big Phat Band. Arranged
by Ralph Ford for developing players, it will be
a hit with both the band and the audience. No
improvised solos, just ensemble playing and
some great section solis. This will be a fun chart
for any performance! Highly recommended!
Optional expanded instrumentation.
10071882 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00
H Autumn Leaves—Joseph Kosma/arr. Peter Blair.
This is a great old tune! Except...there's nothing
"old" sounding about it. It's a medium swing
version of a marvelous, often-played standard
that opens with an alto and trumpet duet and is
filled with tight ensemble punches. The saxes are
featured on a chorus and there is a written or ad lib
solo for piano.

Back Online—Gregory Yasinitsky. Don't miss this
swinging, shuffle blues chart for developing groups
that cooks right off the top! Set at about 132 bpm,
it features a full and hot saxophone section soli, a
stop-time section leading into the solo, a written
or improvised solo for trumpet, and a section that
comes way down after the solos that feature the
brass and then the full ensemble. It then opens
up and really begins to swing! Additionally, it can
be played with optional reduced or expanded
instrumentations. Back Online is accessible for
many bands and is highly recommended!

funky medium tempo. Combining the elements of
New Orleans second line and contemporary rock
styles, this unique chart features a blend of catchy
riffs, solid ensemble passages, and stop-time
breaks. There are short written or ad lib solos for
trumpet and tenor. This chart exudes a spirited and
unmistakable New Orleans swagger!

Bad Dog!—Mike Dana. Here's a great opener,
closer, or anything in between! This swinging
shuffle features cool lines, surprising harmonies,
great rhythm section hooks, and much more.
Notated rhythm section parts, reasonable brass
ranges, and flexibly written or improvised solo
space make this chart a winner. Additionally, it
has a nice feel, a fine harmonic structure, and a
dynamic shout chorus. Scored for standard big
band, it's also playable with optional reduced or
expanded instrumentation and includes a helpful
guitar chord chart. No bad dogs here!

a well-known jazz standard, and Mark Taylor's

swing feel, and the flexibility for open solos with
backgrounds, this will be fun to perform and easy
to prepare. Instrumentation: 3 Saxes; 2 Trumpets; 1
Trombone plus Rhythm Section. Optional parts are
