Allen Gray. Oh, jazz standards just don't get any better than Bart Howard's Fly Me to the Moon! This chart pays homage to the great Count Basie band and their iconic version with Frank Sinatra. With a subtle swingin' opening, this chart builds into a big tutti section before there's room for improvised solos. Finally, the band enters again to swing it hard all the way to the end. This hard- swinging 12-bar blues features acoustic bass in a Thad Jones-inspired setting. It cooks right along and the ensemble provides solid support for the bass soloist. At a tempo of 140 bpm, this chart provides a very accessible opportunity for the unsung hero of the rhythm section to shine. Soprano sax leads the sax section. A unique and very cool trombone section plus bass soli is wrapped between solos for trumpet, soprano sax and bass before heading into the shout chorus. Brass ranges: trumpet to written high C and trombone to G-flat. Bass features are hard to find, and this one is outstanding! 10999402 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Gather 'Round—Rob Vuono, Jr. Gather 'Round is a happy, joyous, medium-tempo gospel swinger with a sunny disposition. An animated full-ensemble introduction leads the way to the down-home melody, at first presented by trumpet and alto over a stop-time rhythm section. The entire sax section takes the melody next, while the brass offer uplifting commentary by way of stop-time chords. Plunger-muted trumpet is featured at the solo section. The solo section can be repeated as desired to feature additional solos; suggested solos are included for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, and trombone. Some deft linear writing follows the solos, providing exciting dialog throughout the ensemble and leading to an effective pyramid that leaps into a big shout chorus. Don't miss the clever tag at the ending plagal cadence offering a place for the plunger-muted trumpet to shine above the final chord. Featuring a dark intensity and a powerful unison riff figure in minor, this medium swing chart is a great showcase for your bass player as well as the trombone section. The harmonic structure is quite simple, but the depth of the arrangement comes from the thematic layers that are continually added throughout. Written solo (or soli) sections are included for the trombones and trumpets as well as notated piano voicings and bass lines. This slow swing opens up with your bass player soloing (written or improved) for 12 bars before the band moves in with a cool, quiet, rich statement of the theme. Give your bass player a shot at this feature! Bass is featured throughout. Two different bass parts are included; one with a written solo throughout and one with just changes for the more mature player. Moderate ranges for all makes this a very accessible chart for most bands. 11202788 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Hey Pachuco!—arr. Shane Porter. Your students and audiences will love this burning swing tune made famous by Royal Crown Revue. The groove is set up with a drum solo laying down a Sing, Sing, Sing Krupa feel before the band enters. A trumpet with plunger solo leads into a sax soli section. Next, the trumpet section is featured on a soli section before a half-time feel gives the brass a chance to shine. Returning to the original groove, a written solo for tenor sax heightens the excitement. Finally, there's an open drum solo before the band enters and takes it on home. Named after the legendary Harlem nightclub where bebop was born, this medium swing chart speaks the language of bebop from the first measure to the last. Dave Wolpe puts the trombones out front in this solid swinger, and boy do they sound great carrying the tune! This sits comfortably for bands at the medium level, and three of your bone players get a chance to solo, with suggested solos offered. What a great chart! 2472224 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 How the Mind Wanders—Lars Halle. Add some variety and a change of pace to any program with this buoyant, medium-tempo swinger for advancing groups that evokes classics like Li'l Darlin' and Cute. Although written or improvised solo space is provided for alto saxophone and trumpet, it's the band that truly shines on this outstanding chart. Additional features include standard instrumentation with trumpets on flugelhorns and optional vibes. A very helpful guitar chord chart is included in the set. From the Trombone Shorty CD Backatown, this tune features the powerful underlying pulse of a New Orleans second line feel along with elements of contemporary rock. There's written or improvised solo space for trumpet. In this exciting chart, the ensemble alternately screams with the full band riffs, then settles into a simmering rhythmic groove. Also included are written bass lines and piano voicings. A real treat to perform and hear! 10490297 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 I Left My Heart in San Francisco—arr. Quincy Jones. Quincy Jones wrote some incredible arrangements on very popular tunes for the Count Basie Orchestra. As recorded on This Time By Basie, Quincy's arrangement of I Left My Heart in San Francisco features great interplay between the ensemble playing the melody, and the piano with written solo fills. With a tempo around 108 bpm, and a relaxed swing feel, there's also short solo space for tenor saxophone, and the ranges are very moderate. This chart is playable by a lot of bands. It's a true classic! Highly recommended! 10368506 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 I Mean You—Monk & Hawkins/arr. Mike Tomaro. Written by Thelonious Monk and Coleman Hawkins, this chart features a freewheeling, New Orleans-style street beat alternating with straight-ahead swing. Mike Tomaro's setting is unique and creative on this Monk classic. Trumpet and tenor share the melody, and solo space is included for trombone and piano with suggested solos included. Carefully edited and available with a full score, this arrangement has everything you need to recreate the original including a trumpet solo, and a short call-and-response passage between the alto and tenor saxes. Greg Yasinitsky has made this great jazz classic into an up-tempo, flag- wavin' swinger. This excellent chart features terrific sax solis, a written or ad lib tenor solo, some stop- time interludes, and a rousing shout chorus. A fine opener or closer, it also includes optional parts for expanded instrumentations.
