As the title suggests, this is a beautiful melodic feature for alto sax. In addition to the haunting tune, there are subtle supportive ensemble figures that weave a rich fabric of accompaniment and include flugelhorns and cup mutes in the trumpet section. The improvised solo needs only two scales - concert D harmonic minor and E-flat major. An ensemble chorus follows the solo section and leads to a cadenza before a slower, more dramatic close. A great opportunity to feature your alto player! 11207700 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Beethoven's Havana Vacation—Ludwig van Beethoven/arr. Terry White. The solo features the alto saxophone, which includes a written solo. The band is given some exciting ensemble writing. Check this one out! 11202578 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Blackbird—Lennon & McCartney/arr. Mark Taylor. Mark Taylor. Sounding full and richly varied, here is a great six-horn chart on the timeless Kenny Dorham jazz standard. The melody is first stated by a trio of trumpet, tenor and guitar followed by the full ensemble, then solo sections for trumpet and tenor. Scored for 6 horns (3 saxes, 2 trumpets 1 trombone) plus rhythm section with optional parts included for alto sax, tenor sax and trombone. Highly recommended! 10374158 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band). . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 Blue Bossa—Kenny Dorham/arr. Mark Taylor. There is a sax section soli that can also be a solo for bari sax or any saxophone. An optional percussion part will complete the package. This engaging chart will be a unique addition to any concert or festival program. 11199476 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 H Feels So Good—Chuck Mangione/arr. Victor Lopez. Flugelhorn solo on the 1st trumpet part is featured throughout with the distinctive melody and then with a written or ad lib solo along with a tenor solo. The flugelhorn solo range is up to an optional written high C, but the solo is cued on the 1st tenor part as well. Victor's arrangement brings this contemporary gem within the range of the developing trumpet player without losing any of the hip appeal of the original. Here's a perennially appealing, samba/rock chart that will provide outstanding performance opportunities for your band and soloist! Highly recommended! 2480787 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Gimme Samba Dat!—Chris Sharp. Opening with a catchy unison ensemble lick, this chart is a samba reminiscent of the Antonio Carlos Jobim style. It features alto sax 1 and trumpet 2 on the lead melody and solos for each that can be improvised or played as written. This hot, cookin' samba with its nice ensemble and sectional passages includes ranges and rhythms that fall into the moderate category. Exciting and powerful! 10910604 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Goodbye Enchilada—Steve Wiest. Pull out all the stops with this chart! It initially features trumpet and alto, then layers in the rest of the band to "hop, skip 'nda jump" their way into a great performance. The solo section is open with straight-ahead changes or with written solos for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, and trombone, with accessible backgrounds. Then, a bridge gives each section a chance to leap up and take their turn. It ends with a big shout chorus, and even with the modest brass ranges, it's scored so it sounds full and exciting. Plus, it's playable with optional reduced instrumentation. Very creative! 11002325 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 H I Wanna Be Like You—Sherman & Sherman/arr. John Wasson. Ralph Ford. You may think this very clever chart is all swing, but it begins as Latin then alternates with a swing feel. The tempo is bright at around 190-200 bpm with suggested solos for trumpet and tenor sax, a few piano montunos, and a big shout chorus leading to a huge ending closing this fine chart appropriately. Additional wind parts and a vibes part are included for optional expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10756380 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00 Just Friends—John Klenner/arr. Give the 'bones some of the spotlight with this exceptional arrangement! 10311435 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 La Cumparsita—arr. Chris Sharp. With varied tempos, and several Latin styles, this is a tour-de- force treatment of the world's best-known tango in the style of Bill Holman's epics for the Stan Kenton band. A flamenco-style fanfare opens the chart, followed by a ballad treatment of the B section. Then the main tune, in its familiar tango mode, is followed by an up-tempo samba version closing with an all-out, fiery ensemble ending. In true Holman style, this passage is interrupted by a short swing section. There are solos featured for tenor sax 1, suggested or with changes, and guitar with changes only. Super for festival or concert finales! 10999377 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .75.00 PATRIOTIC JAZZ CHARTS Perfect for those special moments in community events, school programs and more! America, the Beautiful—Samuel A. Ward/arr. Chris Sharp. Here is the familiar America, the Beautiful reimagined as an energetic shuffle. An a cappella sax soli chorale introduction gives way to a driving shuffle that continues for the remainder of the chart. Harmon-muted trumpets provide extra color in spots. The ranges and rhythmic responsibilities are moderate, and there's written or improvised solo space for tenor sax. This arrangement is appropriate for civic events, patriotic celebrations or as an interesting change-up for festival/ adjudication program. This one is really nice! 10910610 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 H American Patrol—arr. Mike Lewis. Although this piece is not usually associated with jazz bands, this arrangement works so well it can appropriately be included in any jazz concert. It's also invaluable to have in the files for those "emergency" situations where a jazz group is called upon to perform our National Anthem. It includes just the right elements to give it a jazz flavor, yet maintains the dignity and reverence of the original. While it is harmonically jazzy, it is rhythmically traditional and can serve as accompaniment for audience singing. It is also playable with reduced instrumentation. If your jazz ensemble plays for basketball games, this is perfect. A wise investment for all jazz programs!
