Stay in Your Lane—Gordon Goodwin. More
accessible than most Gordon Goodwin charts,
Stay in Your Lane is a hard-hitting, good-time
shuffle groove played at about 135 bpm. There's
lots of call and response between sections, a
swingin' shout chorus, and suggested solos are
included for C, B-flat, and E-flat instruments and
trombone. Of course, improvised solos are an
option. An auxiliary percussion part plus optional
flute and vibraphone parts are also included.
Infectious, fun, and highly recommended!

Big Dipper—Thad Jones. Big Dipper was originally
commissioned by Count Basie for an entire album
of Thad Jones' music; however, Basie never made
the record, instead suggesting that Thad start his
own band. Big Dipper still maintains that swinging
Basie mindset and is an extended 16-bar blues. Its
basic foundations are a relaxed but powerful rhythm
section with a driving ride cymbal and crisp hi-hat
underpinning saxes and brass that are tight and
always on the back of the beat.

Here's a fresh take on a traditional jazz standard.
The style is still up-tempo swing, and the saxes
